This is one of the nicest hotels in Dili. That said, there is also a lot that's a bit disappointing about it. The rooms have some repair issues, my entryway floor was mushy indicating some rotting subflooring. Also, there was a lot of construction repair going on while I was a guest, floor replacements, that for the week I was there meant I had to listen to hammering and jack hammering all day long. VERY noisy and meant you had to tip toe through the lobby, use alternative exits and entrances ... a lot to tolerate over a holiday stay (I was there for New Year's).
Another issue I had was money, I arrived with mostly $100 bills that are not accepted at most stores for lack of ability to make change. The hotel will not accept older bills, only newer ones. So they only accept one kind of credit card, Visa and only certain kinds of cash. Be prepared! The staff is super nice though.
Tipping is not expected but is definitely appreciated and you will see a difference in service!
Be aware that they advertise a pool, but don't REALLY have a pool. It belongs to the entire compound of buildings, not the hotel. To use it, you have to leave the building, walk down an alley, use a code to go into a different building ... several buildings over. The pool is mostly used by apartment renters, not hotel guests. You need to get directions and a code from the front desk. It is NOT convenient.
Rooms come with a mini fridge, but it may not be very cold. No microwaves. There is usually an electric pot for hot water.
If you require sugar substitutes or special dietary items, bring it with you. No alternatives are available.
Internet isn't terrible, some of the best on the island. However it is not suitable for downloads of media. Come with any movies, videos, or large files...
Read moreYou can find clothing stores, restaurants, electronic stores, supermarkets, hotel, bar, banks, travel agencies and even law firms. It can be expensive to shop here, and the products are not exactly the best quality or even top brands (e.g. clothing, shoes, sunglasses, etc.). It can get crowded during the weekends and you'll often find people just sitting on the floor inside the mall. Young men selling pulsa by the door are very annoying. There's an elevator, but it won't stop on Level 2. The cleaning crew uses this same elevator to carry garbage. Parking lot is spacious, but with all of the reserved spaces, it can be difficult to find a spot near the main entrance of the mall. Also, there is no shade available, so your car will just sit there in the sun for the time...
Read moreTimor Plaza is one of the best hotels in Dili as there are a very few options available in Dili. The room size is enough for couple. Atmosphere is neat and clean but I found insects in the room.
I would like to give one more star for the very gentle amicable staffs. They are very friendly and helpful.
With regard to restaurant, buffet breakfast is good but some of the items are without description. If you are taking anything without description, ask to the staff if you have restrictions in taking beef, pork etc. Further, I tried pizza for dinner which quality was very bad. But the roasted duck at the lunch on following day was very delicious.
Overall 4 star which I think...
