This open air market is the reason I'm vegetarian. Not many Folks from the U.S. make it up this way, but hey...They have wool sweaters that I have only seen on Grateful Dead winter tour and cool silver jewelry. The people are tiny. Not after I saw 2 little, less than 41/2 ft. tall women, take down a 2 ton bull with a 6 foot rope. They skinned and butchered it, collected the blood in 2 tin buckets and proceeded to drink the blood. Apparently the one who raised and killed the animal must drink the blood as a way of giving thanks and completing the cycle. I know now I never did deserve to have meat like that. Too eazy. Life changing. Crazy. I had the opportunity to attend the harvest activities with my boyfriend and his family who are locals. They had me chewing yucca and spitting it into a bowl. By the time I realized that my spit would replace the wine we had been drinking all day, I was too drink to care. Lucky girl. Don't be jealous. I also say on the roof top of the 3 story house and got the sun burn of my life. You would think I should have known. Saqisilli is almost 30000 feet above sea level or something. Driving up there from Guayaquil you need O2 . I thought I was gonna die. You might as well been on outer space. It took me like 2 days...
