(Went 1 week ago). Worst Airport that I've been to. Firstly, their Wi-Fi doesn't work. So if your flight is delayed, you have no chance to message people who are picking you up.
Secondly, walk through the door, one guy (not even wearing any form of official wear), asks you for your passport. You then go through security, they refused to give me a tray for my (white) coat and bag so those obviously came back out dirty. So you then go through the metal detector, which beeps (but let's not forget it beeps for everyone, everytime), so you get searched. You go through, drop off your bags.
Then go through customs, they check your passport and everything. You walk out to head upstairs to the departures, but before you can get there. Literally 2 meters away from the Customs (where they guy had previously checked my passport, and that person can see you very clearly), if another person and what do they do? They check my passport again. Cos apparently the 1st, 2 other times weren't enough! After that, you get upstairs, to the restaurant area which by the way weren't open even at 7am. So no chance of food.
You then proceed to your gate,..OH BUT WAIT...! You get to go through security AGAIN! Same, thing, metal detector beeps, they search you again! By this point I was ROYALLY Annoyed with the whole thing. You get your bag on the other side. Then someone else, calls you over to check through your bag and check your passport AGAIN!!!! It was such a mess, the whole thing.
They're literally making jobs that AREN't NEEDED, all in the meantime making everyone really annoyed and frustrated.
So after that, you head towards your gate, and when you think it's all over,...it's NOT. They search your BAG AGAIN, for the 3rd time and this is after going through security twice ALREADY! And then, they...guess again , they search you again. So I and everyone else has been searched 3 times in total within 30 mins of being at the airport. The whole experience was a waste of time and overkill to say the least. I have never been searched that many times ever.
Their whole system needs to be re-structed cos it's an absolute mess and make you wonder if they are even competent in doing their job.
Would NOT RECOMMEND. Your patience will be tested to...
Read moreMy wife and I recently visited Luxor for a week, really enjoyed our time in Egypt and planned on coming back again in 2025...that was until we experienced this airport on our return TUI flight to London Gatwick.
It all started with getting off the transfer coach where we were greeted by children begging for money whilst collecting our suitcases.
We then were taken by our TUI rep to the first of three security areas, waited 30 minutes for security to bother opening and eventually went through. Both my wife and myself were searched thoroughly and my wife's bag was looked through.
When finally making it to the check in gate, a non friendly person behind the desk proceed to advise only one suitcase was permitted on the flight, despite us both having travelled into Egypt with two suitcases and paid for this with TUI. After numerous discussions with the manager we were finally allowed to check in two bags and attended the second security section, again both touched up by Egyptian men and women wearing rubber gloves.
We finally made it into the waiting area which has one restaurant and a limited supply of shops on offer. The announcement came to proceed into the departure lounge where we had to go through a third security gate, this time removing shoes and made to dispose of water bottles we'd purchased from the duty free shop for the flight. I was again searched by the bomb squad after going through security, having to remove all items from my pockets again! This also involving writing down my name and sensitive information on a note pad
The departure lounge had a 4th security check section before we were allowed to take a seat. I proceeded to use the bathroom and was asked by an airport worker for money to dry my hands with toilet roll he'd obviously taken from a cubicle.
Our TUI flight was late boarding with no update given by the airport staff. The check in clerk was still using a fax machine and was very rude.
The airport is in desperate need of modernisation, IT systems investment and basic customer service training. It will struggle to cope with any increase in tourism numbers.
Its put me off ever going back to Egypt which is a shame considering the people of Luxor are...
Read moreThe airport is large and clean. It has some air conditioning. That's the best I can say about this place.
The first round of security was at the front doors. Then we had to wait just inside the doors with the hot air blowing in, because the cop was keeping the doors open. Next came the second round of security with unclear communications to separate us into male and female lines. Once you cleared the security, a person patted you down (very personally). That didn't matter to me so much as the way she barked orders at me that were unclear and in Arabic. No kindness or patience with her!
The clerk at EgyptAir was so slow, I grew 10 new gray hairs. I checked one bag.
Then I had to go through another round of security. My small bag was flagged. I waited until a man said open. I said he had my permission, but then he said "you". It could have been so much easier if this INTERNATIONAL airport had people working here who spoke other languages. And I do speak other languages. My bag was flagged for my nail clippers. The man told me to take them out and I did. He put them on the counter and proceeded to look through my cold medicines. I had dayquil and nyquil tabs-two of each. And I had cough drops. I have a cold and don't have a voice! He inspected everyone one of them. Then he asked me in Arabic if I had some medicine, which I didn't understand. Finally after about 20 minutes of painstaking searching he gave me them back. All the people I was with were long gone, except my husband who was pulled aside by the bored bomb squad. It was ridiculous. I'm an older woman My husband is an older man. We are foreigners and don't speak Arabic. It felt targeted.
This is the Turkey and cheese sandwich feim Bell's at the Luxor Airport. Notice the expiration date---2 days ago.
Now, we're waiting for the old school bus to take us to the plane.
