Amazing place, but nature and history have been treating it hard.... 💥However ▶️ Tsar Peter the Great personally designed these defence system inspired by Dutch fortress design and layout. The Pakri peninsula fortress with its five bastions was carved into the high limestone cliff monolith, earth walls were up to 4 m high and over 17 m above sea level. In 1790 there were over 40 cannons in the fortress. In 1939-1940, oil depots were here in the moat and a railway branch in the fortress was destroyed during the war. During the years after the war, gravel was taken from the ramparts for the construction of roads that ruined the ramparts between eastern and southeastern bastions.
