Bula Vinaka Fiji. What a breathtaking piece of paradise it is, with sunsets that will keep your eyes glued for hours.
Resort itself is very small and tranquil far away from night clubs and lively atmosphere. Definitely ideal for young families with kids, who just need a piece of mind and unwind from daily parenting routine or simply looking for a digital life detox. Beautiful accommodations and of cause who can forget the friendliness of locals. Those were the positives. As per activities for kids of 6 yrs and over I have book this holiday based on the feedback and I was very disappointed. Since anything we wanted to do with an 11 years old was very, very expensive and had to be done in a group of kids (well there were no more others of a similar age) so had to wait.
Also the location of the resort meant that we were stuck and catching a boat out for a day tour to anywhere else was very $ AU. Be prepared to spend apx $50 p/adult and $25 per child for 30min on any water based activity. Kids club for under 6 years is a great! Also experienced extremely upsetting tour to Honeymoon Island (once again breathtaking place). We were promised 3 hrs tour with snorkelling and coral seeing. BUT firstly coral is dead; secondly we ended up being bitten by sea lice and came close within a meter away from sea snake. As a westerner and not a layback local I would’ve expected to be informed about the actual reality of the Tour, before we payed, as being informed is a MUST, especially when travelling with kids.
Food this was a sore point. We knew from friend’s feedback Fijian dining is an expensive affair, so I can not with all honesty say we had a high expectation. And we booked this resort based on raving food comments. How NOT true in our experience that was. Everything is drowned in oil, salty, deep fried beyond and meat was just cooked to the state of dryness, so kids could not even eat chicken (sausages were lovely). Yes if you are into endless Sugar based Frappes, muffins and eggs you will survive. Awful Burger will set you back $18AUS, a bottle of mineral water $16 penne with peas no meat $42, kids meals are somewhat very limited and small... Unless yours are under 10years of age :o) portions will be fine. The only thing was very nice are small variety of fruits and freshly baked goods (even yogurts were way too sweet).
It was also unfortunate that despite the sigh “Do not disturb” cleaning stuff attended our room in the evening leaving front door open for all the mosquitoes.
Overall our family had a nice break, since the Fijian weather and natural specticals made up for all the disappointments. But will choose a larger resort in a different island next time.
