Märket — Local services in Ålands Countryside

Seen questions about how to get there. Well, never visited it nor live nearby, but I know Finnish so I checked it out. you can get your own boat from Åland. That's the easiest way. If that can't be done, there is an option 2. from Helsinki take a train or sth to Turku. From there, take a ferry to Åland. Take the bus 1 from Mariehamn to Eckerö harbour. From there, head to Käringsund guest harbour. Here it becomes difficult. You must inquire about the trip beforehand from Märket from Käringsund Gästhamn, Visit Åland, Suomen Majakkaseura, or, if you can't get the trip from them, Granbergs gästhus. The trip might cost 100€,might cost 600€. There are no clear prices online, but you can inquire about them from beforementioned places....

We had a ball at Märket. The island got great food, great people and heaps of personality. The 5-course dinner at the Swedish inn was sublime, I especially recommend the surströmming appetiser. Don't forget to speak to the Finnish guys at the lighthouse, they had a great sense of humor. Only downside was the crowds of illegal immigrants at every border crossing, thereby only 4 stars.
