When the lady arranging our trip suggested staying longer in the log cabins we were initially a bit unsure. However, shortly after we arrived, we could see why she recommended them so highly!||Firstly, there are only 5 cabins and the property is run exclusively by Mika and Jaana who were amazing hosts - nothing was ever too much trouble. This really provides a personal touch and a feeling of exclusivity. (We moved to another property straight afterwards and were slightly disappointed as it was like being in any other mid-sized hotel).||Mika and Jaana’s hospitality included driving us to a local restaurant, dropping us at the next accommodation. Mika also took us on a sleigh ride by snowmobile through the forest. We stopped to make a fire and toast some marshmallows which our daughter loved! This was a truly magical experience for all 3 of us.||The hosts also provide special boots and an ‘all-in-one’ suit which you wear over your ski gear. At times the temperature reached -28 so these are a necessity not a luxury. This equipment is extremely expensive to purchase yourself and yet it was included as part of the cost of the cabin.||I should also add that I am an extremely fussy eater. However, there was never a problem at the Polar Aurora Cabins. The breakfasts were great and the salmon we had for dinner on the last night was the best I have ever tasted.||If you are looking at various accommodation options in the area, look no further. Even if you think the price is a bit above your budget, bear in mind all the extras you are getting included as part of the price. ||Polar Aurora Cabins are truly unique thanks to their location but primarily because of Mika and Jaana’s hard work and...
Read moreI have always wanted to visit Finland and experience proper snow, all of the snowy activities, a cosy wood cabin and typical Finnish food. Polar Aurora cabins delivered on every single thing; we simply could not have chosen any better. The hosts, Mika and Janna, are determined to deliver a superb customer service. They collected us from the bus stop and kitted us out for snowshoeing. I loved Mika's enthusiasm and sense of humour and he clearly loves his home country. The Lappish meal in the newly built kota was simply superb. I am still dreaming of that smoked reindeer and cloudberry jam combination served as a starter followed by salmon smoked in front of the open fire - the best meal I have had in a long time and I eat very well! The catering meal was also delicious, kind of shredded cooked potato with cheese and ham with salad and dessert; simple but exactly what is needed after day ||out in the snow. The cabin was spotless and super heated with one separate bedroom and two beds in the loft space for children approx. 6 - 12. Younger children could have a bed downstairs as the stairs are a little steep. For older children I would suggest opting for the 2 bedroom cabin. And yes, we had a sauna and rolled in the snow - certainly to be experienced! I would suggest booking your activities via this company too as this would avoid taxi transfers to other companies. I enjoyed the combination of privacy in the cabins and on site with the closeness of Saariselka and its attractions. Thank you Mika and Janna for an unforgettable few days - we...
Read moreWe had been planning to go to Lapland for years, however, other people we knew who'd been, suggested we wait until our children were old enough to truly enjoy and remember all the experiences on offer. I had researched accommodation but all the 'resorts' I came across seemed so huge and commercial. We are a family who travel a lot and seek really authentic experiences wherever we go. We prefer a more boutique-sized and personalised accommodation. (Just to add, we did see two other resorts with igloos and for a family, the igloos were soooo tiny. Very glad we did not book). Polar Aurora Cabins were the perfect choice for us. With just 5 cabins onsite, we felt secluded yet safe. The winter scenery was simply breathtaking and unlike anything we'd ever seen before. We stayed in cabin #5 and always felt toasty warm. The cabins are well-constructed and authentic, cosy but comfortable for our family. The sauna was fantastic and having the option to cook and prepare snacks in our own kitchen was great. We chose to have breakfast daily in the restaurant prepared by Jaana which was delicious and the Lappish dinner is a must. Mika and Jaana were the perfect hosts who made all of us feel very welcome and no request was too much for them. They can arrange a selection of activities for guests; we particularly enjoyed snowmobiling into the forest and a campfire sausage dinner. We spent one night in Rovaniemi in a large resort and did not enjoy it at all. We had such a great time at Polar Aurora Cabins that we plan to return again this December and stay...
