Apukka Resort Adventures - Excursions and Husky & Reindeer Farm — Local services in Rovaniemi sub-region

We participated in the husky tour in unusually cold weather and found that the resort did not take proper steps to ensure the activity would be worthwhile. We waited over 30 minutes after the scheduled start, outside, in cold arctic weather, in order for unprepared participants to go borrow cold-weather gear from the resort's gear room. We trekked across a busy highway to the activity location. The initial educational component was brief and outdoors. We loaded ourselves into the sled, incorrectly, and were brusquely resorted. And then we proceeded on the activity. My kids were so cold that one of them cried through the entire activity. We returned to the start location and we were so cold that our party and another party had to leave for safety reasons. We missed interacting with the dogs (if that was even offered) and any additional educational component. Considering the weather, they really should have departed at the scheduled time, shuttled guests across the busy highway, taken more time to help guests get (warmly) situated into the sleds and had fires and warm drinks set up for after the activity (vice having everyone wait for it to be set up). Then, adding insult to injury, the resort declined to refund our afternoon activity the following day because we cancelled it 22 hours prior, instead of 24 hours prior -- and the decision to cancel was based entirely on the experience with...

Apparently, over 5000€ spent on Apukka adventures excursions was not enough to change one activity for another for a serious reason - our 4 years old son got injured and was covered in blood. To make long story short: we booked 5 excursions from Apukka adventures this year (after already booking 4 excursions in 2018) and our little son got a split lip, so we asked to change the 3h horse excursion that he obviously couldn't attend for health reasons to something else on another day. As a result, we had to wait an hour in the Apukka adventures office for an answer and then we were sent home only to get quite a rude email rubbing our noses in the Apukka adventures “terms and conditions” which do not provide any activities exchange. We did not even ask for a refund! We asked to exchange an activity in good faith.

This company has no shame. Their employees were almost always stressed and inattentive. There were a way too many customers everywhere (changing rooms, toilets etc). Considering several excursions cost over 1000€ per family (which is a monthly salary of over 70% of Spaniards), it’s completely unacceptable!

We went for the husky adventure ride. Had a terrible experience.

Pros: Huskies were cute and lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride itself and petting the huskies

Cons: First, the tour started 30 minutes late as we were waiting for other guests to join the group. Despite this, the tour ended on time. Furthermore, it was very disorganised right from the get go when you arrive at the resort and there’s 0 instructions, and during the experience we had no idea when it was the next segment of the experience, eg. Petting huskies or the little snack segment. We missed the snack segment unknowingly and ended up being left behind at the husky park without even knowing and had to trek back to apukka ourselves. The guide also did not inform us of the bus timing, and that caused us to miss the bus back to santa claus village. Upon asking reception for help, we were told the only options were to wait close to 2hrs for the next bus (ridiculously long) or pay for our own cab back. If we had known earlier that the planning was so terrible, we’d have just driven our car here ourselves.
