So Beautiful that it looks fake in pictures. You need to go see with your eyes. If you go to one place in the Pyrenees this has to be it. We arrived late in the day past 6pm (midweek). The daytime was super hot and I read somewhere they block access to Gavarnie after 9am in peak season. So took a chance and rocked up to the parking panoramique. Paid £5 at the nearly empty car park and the kind lady said they close the gate at 20.00 and lock up at 20.30. Oh dear we dont have much time, it is 18.24. Will we make it to the viewpoint? we will try, legs start pumping. Out the gate take a left and start walking along the stream. Starts nice and easy then there rocky terrain up and down. Start sweating, heart pumping. Struggling to breathe. Not as fit as I used to be. Some donkeys and horses along the path, take some obligatory pics and videos. Getting even later. Take the executive decision to only go as far as the hotel. This takes us about an hour. To the viewpoint it would be about 90 minutes. We still get a very nice view from the hotel (which has a nice terrace to enjoy food and drink with a view but pricey). Turn back from the hotel and speedwalk back to the car park, just made it...

We recently stayed in Lourdes and decided to make a day trip into the Pyrenees National Park, starting our day with a stop at mountain village of Gavarnie to take the 3 hour point-to-point hike into the natural amphitheatre area known as Cirque de Gavarnie.

This is a remarkable area to visit and see. The trail is just over 4km and takes around 90 minutes to reach the iconic Hôtel du Cirque et de la Cascade, where the amphitheatre opens up and provides remarkable views. The trail continues onward all the way to the waterfalls.

We didn't have time to hike this far and had to turn back after spending some time at the Hôtel du Cirque et de la Cascade viewpoint. Returning back to the village, there are more impressive views throughout the beautiful...
