Cardoland — Local services in Avallon

Cardoland is a dinosaur park named after its creator, Raoul Cardo Irigaray, born in 1924. He first was an artist and choreographer who has worked with the greats at the time, such as people like Edith Piaf and Marcel Marceau. After his dancing career he created this park, where he single-handedly made most of the sculptures for. This reminded me a lot of the Efteling fairy tale park in The Netherlands, where Anton Pieck (a famous Dutch painter) has created all sketches for. After Cardo's death in 2009 his children and grandchildren have carried on with his work and have been adding some more impressive dino sculptures.

The sculptures are clearly made with love. However, they are not very realistic for today's standards, and will therefore mostly appeal to smaller children, and not to teenagers. That said, standing under the sculpture of a Diplodocus or T-Rex makes you fully appreciate the enormous size of these beasts, more than an image or film will ever do. There are also signs at each sculpture explaining what dinosaur it is, where/when it lived, what it ate, etc. So also the adults can get something out of it.

They have several shows, of which I can recommend the nursery. They will let you feed a "baby dinosaur" that is held by the ranger, which for children is very cool. Also the cave with its light and sound effects is nice.

Another show however, isn't that great. The show takes place in an open-air theater. It mainly consists of junior-level circus acts of people dressed as cavemen that are nice to watch for 10 minutes or so, but the show drags on for more than an hour and you are not allowed to leave in between. They just keep on coming with variations to the same acts. After the circus acts there is also a live show with "real" dinosaurs (a bit like the walking with dinosaurs show) which is nice and funny, but doesn't make up for the waste of time that the rest of the show is. If you go to this show, make sure you're sitting in a spot where you can easily leave without disturbing others, for example, on the other side of theater from where the main seats are. The first dinosaur is only shown about half an hour after the show starts. To the team: I appreciate your effort, and you're really nice people, and what you're doing isn't that bad, but cut the time per act in half. That will make people appreciate it more instead of being annoyed.

The circus show is why I have given the park 3 stars. Otherwise it would have gotten 4.

Worth a visit, especially with children of ages around 6 to...

Un côté kitsch mal assumé, mais quelques bons points. La visite débute par un diaporama gênant à la gloire de Mr Cardo, le créateur du parc (N'est pas John Hammond qui veut.). Ensuite une jolie salle d'exposition un peu succincte comprenant des fossiles et moulages d'os, puis un tour dans un parc orné de grosses sculptures de dinosaures ou animaux préhistoriques. Le parc est joli et bien entretenu. Les sculptures sont de qualité et de niveau très aléatoires, avec parfois des rendus sincèrement pas terribles. Le résultat n'est pas très professionnel, ce que nous ne savions pas à l'avance. Ceci dit notre fils de 4 ans, fan de dinos était ravi et courait d'un animal à l'autre. Les animations sont très bien pour les enfants et les jeux plutôt sympas. (pour les plus petits). Attention notamment aux animations s'il y a du monde, certains spectateurs arrivent jusqu'à 45 min à l'avance pour arriver à être bien placé. Point noir pour le snack hors de prix et pas bon du tout, des crepes salées à 13€ ou sandwich à 7€. Le peu qu'on a mangé nous est resté sur le ventre et on s'est sentis mal tout l'après midi. Le menu comprend une glace en dessert mais attention pas la moitié de celles affichées et surtout pas un magnum, le moindre euro compte. 20€ l'entrée adulte, entre 12 et 14€ l'entrée enfant, rajoutez 3€ par enfant et par atelier. On est sur un demi-parc astérix en budget ce qui totalement excessif. Bref des prétentions budgétaires de parc d'attraction pour un joli jardin aménagé. De très bonnes intentions, quelques aspects positifs, mais rien...

Nous sommes venus en famille courant Août 2019 suite aux publicitées sur les routes. Nous pensions que le parc était basé entierement sur les dinosaures mais en faite non. C'est un projet de toute une vie d'un monsieur qui aimait les sculptures et qui a reproduit des dinosaures avec cette technique. Le parc n est pas très grand avec une entrée abordable et on peut y voir pas mal de race, certain en taille réel, d autre non. J'ai trouvé que les sutures étaient plutôt bien réalisée. Nous avons fait le tour du parc en 2h ce qui est plutôt correct. Nous avons pus manger tranquillement sur les tables du self mais une GROSSE DÉCEPTION entre le prix et le menu ! Le gros point noir du parc. 10€ pour un menu enfant ( 2 saucisses, 1 tranches de salade, 1 tranche de tomates, 1 boisson et 1 paquet de chips) 9€ pour un menu adulte (1 sandwich jambon beurre, 1 paquet de chips, 1 boisson) Il faut que le parc fasse quelque chose ! C est beaucoup trop cher. Nous avons vus que les animations étaient prévus l après-midi. C est dommage. Une le matin et une l après-midi aurait été mieux. Nous avons fini le parc et de manger vers 13h. Du coup, nous n'avons pas voulu attendre les spectacles qui étaient un peux plus tard dans la journée.

Pour conclure, je pense que c est un parc qui faut faire l'après-midi, après avoir manger pic-nique, pour pouvoir profité de tous. Cardoland à une vrai volonté de se rapproché de la nature, très peux de béton, toilette en sèche en bois ( avec de la lumière c est mieux 🤣). Bien à...
