Nice adventure getting on top of the highest peak of the Caribbean islands. The path is very good signaled with stories from place to place which makes the trip easier and determines the visitor wishes to get on top. If you are not in good physical condition might not enjoying :) I highly recommend to have this trip once there and the weather is good, hurry up as it changes so quickly you'll miss the party on top if you don't rush. I've been once and when I left the car parking from Bains Jaunes was quite nice but advancing to the top it was getting worse and the rain stared. There are strong winds and seem foggy but actually these are the clouds. Nice experience overall which I would like to repeat once but hopefully on...
Read moreA must-do hike if you want a challenging 5 mile hike with more than 2000 vertical feet of scrambling up and down the mountain. The parking lot is limited and filled up by 7h30. We hiked clockwise around, and the second half was quite a bit more slippery and muddy, but you should plan to get very wet and muddy either way. The summit is normally obscured by the persistent clouds, and is also very windy. The five miles took us almost 5 hours, as we were taking particular care not to slip and fall. Evacuating an injured hiker would be a real challenge, and we did not notice any park staff during our visit. Prepare well, pack a lunch and plenty of water, and have a great hike. Also, the hot spring pool at the parking lot is...
Read moreVery cool hike. The “hard” rating comes from the sheer climb that you need to do, about 190 floors equivalent from where you’ll likely park, which will be on the road, down from the official lot, good for about 20 vehicles - anytime after 7:30 it’s full. The easiness and overall accessibility of the trail is due to its organization. There’s not only very clear markings, but also pavement for a good part of the initial climb, and later railings and other helpers. We saw entire families go up, small children with their grandmas. It’s obviously for everyone, but you’ll breathe hard. Don’t be intimidated by its height, take your time. And be patient because there are tons of people. It’s...
