Nice river that I cycled along from the Doubs to the Rhone. The towpath is far from ideal for cycling along and needs to be tarmacked. The river itself is really nice with the Beaujolais hills alongside. We spent a very pleasant few days cycling along it, apart from as I did the surface we rode on. Eventually we had to give up and take to the road at Montmerle-sur-Soâne.

I entered the Saone from the Canal du Centre and was immediately struck by how placid and scenic this waterway is,very clean and considerably cleaner than many British waterways, I was shown the utmost consideration by other boat users during my journey to the Doubs, there was also an abundance of wild camping places and places to swim the clean waters.
