One of the visual landmarks that watch over Provence. For cycling enthusiasts, climbing to the top is a once-in-a-lifetime goal. For those with sporty inclinations, the ascent can be approached both on foot (there are marked routes) and by bicycle. This time, we went up by car starting from Malaucenne. Numerous cyclists on the road, of all ages, to whom drivers must be cautious and offer them the necessary courtesy in traffic. I was impressed by several mountain running enthusiasts I met along the way. The scenery is superb, especially in the alpine hollow area, where the view is absolutely gorgeous at 360 degrees. Pay attention to the weather because, at the top, weather conditions can change radically in a few minutes. Even though it was hot down in the valley (34-36 C), up on the peak, it was only 20-21, and the cold wind was blowing hard. Have a jacket ready, too. Don't forget your supplies as upstairs there is only a souvenir shop and a small bar with a relatively limited offer. Even if you only have one day to visit Provence, if the weather is excellent and the sky is clear, I recommend starting the day with the ascent of Mont Ventoux and then checking off a few other unmissable places: Gordes, Roussilo on, Abbaye de Sennanque, Chateaxuneuf du...

This is an amazing place to see the sun rise, we made it to the top with 5 mins to spare as we had no idea what we were about to witness, plenty of others did know as their were lots of early birds there sat on rugs on the walkways and when the sun breaks you will hear everyone in gasp. Few points to help, there are many apps that tell you the exact sunrise time, use one ours was right to the minute (photopills), and Google maps has some wildly varying travel times bedoin to the top from 30 mins to over an hour, this is due to the HUGE amount of cyclists and walkers going up the road in the dark, allow PLENTY of time and take it steady not all the cyclists and walkers are intelligent enough to use lights and/or high Vis. Definitely a place to go...
