Canoeing the Grand Alsace Canal? Good luck,I joined the canal at Niffer (travelling as far as Breisach ) and found myself in a concrete trench,the banks are negotiable,even with equipment and canoe,but resting even for a moment means the wash from passing freight scrapes the heck out of the hull.The canal has no portage facilities,although there are concrete steps at each dam to make things easier,relaunching can be a pain as the banks are sheer,I had to put baggage underneath to protect the fiberglass,wild camping spots are available and I slept unmolested on the bank.I think the river Rhine was the better option,as it is much more scenic and...
