NOT WORTH your time and money:
Main reason: Once on the island, prices were very high, but nobody informed us about prices when we were booking the boat trip out. The business clearly welcomes customers’ purses more than it does welcome customers.
Beach is full of corals, hard to walk on. Lemon Beach on closeby mainland has fine sand, and the beach is nicer for swimming and relaxation.
Water taxi costs 15AUD return per person, for just a 3min ride.
Prices for beach chairs: 42AUD for 2 neighbouring chairs. Space without chairs is very limited and filled with corals. We were asked to move out of sight from the beach chairs if not paying.
Bar and restaurant looks nice, but serves at tourist prices. Prices are only displayed in New Caledonian Francs, leaving room for the business to ask for...
Read moreThis is a good 2-4 hour day trip if you want to do snorkeling close to Noumea. There is parking right next to the water taxi. It cost 2500xpf for a return trip and an umbrella. we just purchased one umbrella given most of the group was in the water. Worth it as the sun is pretty intense with no shade. Coral is sharp so ideally bring footwear that is suitable. There are numbers buoys 1-5 which is where you do the snorkeling. Relative to the proximity to the "mainland" it's hard to beat, there is probably better snorkeling elsewhere on the island, yes, but involves a trek or long day trip. Perfect if you have young children who want to experience snorkeling, see lots, without a giant effort. We had our own snorkel/mask sets so the whole experience ended up being very cheap and a...
Read moreAfter reading all the reviews online for Duck Island, we decided to spend a couple hours on Duck Island, If you want to enjoy the good side of the Beach you will have to pay for Beach chairs (as all the reviews advise they are expensive) unfortunately, they do have the nest side of the Island where they clear the beach from all the Coral and rocks. We opted not to hire one but instead explore the little Island, there are very few spots to sit and enjoy the water but depending on the weather the spots are not worth swimming. There is a restaurant on the Island with a few good selections of cocktails, a little expensive compared to the main island. Also great views of Noumea from the Island with photo...
