Abbaye Saint Barthélémy de Bénévent-l'Abbaye — Local services in Guéret

Beautiful 11th century church with romanesque columns, great woodwork at the entrance and intricate architecture in the centre. A bit 'over restored' in a recent restoration so it lost a bit of character, unfortunately. Paintings are in bad shape, but well worth checking out. Nice former medicinal garden with some benches in the shade. Architectural plans are on the board near the entrance....

Un monument imposant dans un très beau village. Située sur la via Lemovicensis, un chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle qui vit passer de nombreux pèlerins, cette église bâtie aux 11ème et 12ème siècles devient abbaye en 1458. Son état actuel est remarquable et tout le village semble mis en valeur par le rafraîchissement d'une restauration récente des maisons. L'abbatiale est très belle à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur et ce chef d'oeuvre aux proportions particulièrement harmonieuses semble dédié au Nombre d'Or "phi", 1,618 comme le signale les notices de visite mises à disposition...
