What a dream to visit Chateau de Rayne-Vigneau. On some of the highest grounds in Sauternes, you can see the chateau from miles away.

Our host at Sigalas Rabaud suggested visiting Rayne-Vigneau for being one of the most beautiful vineyards in Sauternes in additions to having some of the most tasty Sauterne and he was correct.

When we arrived, the young lady said that there was a tour in progress and apologized but suggested we come back at a set later time.

When we arrived late in the afternoon, we were the only guests and felt like we had a private tasting. The young sommelier clearly knew her wines and was so enthusiastic! So much for the stereotype that you don’t get great service in France.

This one was one of my favorites. We had a private tour of the vines and barrel room. Our guide even let us try some of the rotting grapes from the vines that would get pressed into wine. It's fine, we lived! He also let us try some of the wine that wasn't quite ready yet. It was like sparkling grape juice. 🍇

One unique thing about this vineyard was the artwork scattered around the barrels and in the tasting room by @artistetiphaniecanada! On top of the art work, the owner apparently really likes these stuffed animals... just take a look at the last photo. 📸

Finally, to our tasting. We didn't have any snacks with this, but look how many glasses we used 🙈 Our guide was so knowledgeable about the wines and helped us learn so much about the process!

Had a wonderful experience! The tour was not only informative but also incredibly enjoyable, thanks to our guides, Elodie and Michelle. Their deep knowledge of the winemaking process, from vine to bottle, was impressive, and their kindness and great sense of humor made the entire visit feel warm and personal.

A highlight of the tour was the visit to the aging room, where the quiet, barrel-lined space offered a fascinating glimpse into the care and time that goes into crafting each wine.
