Beautiful secluded island with incredible shells, turtles and fish!

We visited in April and had mostly sunny weather for our day visit. A group paid for a Zodiac out to the island for 5 hours. Smooth ride there and back!

It was a bit difficult to snorkel on one side of the island because it was so shallow and there really wasn’t a channel to go through. We were worried we would damage the reef so we came back to shore. In the few minutes we were out there we did see a blue starfish (seriously cool - we had seen our first blue starfish a week earlier in Mystery Island Vanuatu). Plenty of cool tropical fish all around!

Let’s not forget about all of the snakes! We saw at least 7 or 8 of them! 2 came from the waters to the sandy beach! We mostly saw them near the trees and along the sand!

We dropped a post card in the smallest post box (hoping it makes it to London!). We learned that New Caledonia does not allow paper mail to be sent to the USA (only packages) so we were disappointed we couldn’t mail post cards back home.

The lighthouse was closed the day we visited.

Definitely recommend visiting...

It is the best excursion from Noumea, this tiny island of Amedee is very picturesque. With daily cruises operated by Mary D Agency this little Island is always filled with happy tourists (Don't worry it is not over crowded). The trip going there is not cheap but it is certainly worth every penny. It cost 12950 CPF per person (as of Oct 2019), it includes hotel pick-up and drop-off, buffet lunch, glass bottom boat tour and cultural workshops. The tour of the lighthouse costs a little bit extra, you can get the ticket once you get to the island little boutique. There is quite a bit of interesting wildlife on and around the island, most notable is the number of sea turtles that you can snorkel with in the surrounding ocean. And the second one is the sea snake, they are poisonous but timid, best advice is keep young children under supervision and not to leave bags opened on the floor or you might be taking one of those venomous...

We went by taxi boat to the Island. Amazing views and well prepared for tourist. You can snorkel around the island and we saw turtles!! I'm a BIG fan of turtles. We saw a couple. I was thrilled. I didn't went to do the phare, but my partner did and the views where amazing. The open the tickets at 1:30 pm and our boat supposed to leave at 2 pm but I think was a miscommunication as we end up going at 3:15pm. But I was anxious to be on time 😞 so I didn't went. All the experience were very nice. The Mary D tour has his own private place to eat and a few dances, but we didn't get any spot available so end up going with the taxi boat and pack a few sandwiches, water and snaks in an improvised cooler. Worked...

We visited this island as part of a shore excursion onboard the P&O Pacific Adventure. The trip from the marina took about 40 min and we were greeted with white sand and incredible aqua water. It is located within a marine reserve and is apparently the worlds largest lagoon. We swam with green sea turtles and snorkeling revealed a myriad of other sea creatures and fish. We counted 10 sea snakes whilst on the island - venomous but non-aggressive. We didn’t venture up the lighthouse as our time was dominated in the water. I’d highly recommend this.
