Definitely worth going out of the city for this! You have to cross the border but it's no big deal since the border is open. The views are gorgeous but it's very cold up top. If it's cold or windy at all down in the city, it's a lot colder and windier up top. I wasn't prepared for that and only had a jacket, and it wasn't enough. I went in May and it had snowed the night before. Those few thousand feet of altitude make a huge difference! It's easy to get there with the #8 bus. You can catch it at the main station in town. You have to get on the #8 to Doulane since the route bifurcates at the end and there are different #8's. Take the bus all the way to the last stop. When you get off, the route to the cable car isn't super obvious, but across the street there is a tiny sign saying to walk towards the mountain. From there, you just walk to the border. There's a booth in the road but it's empty. At the T intersection, walk across the street into the park that's there and at the other side there will be a big red sign pointing out the route to the cable car. From there, follow the red signs and it's not far. If you're driving, you have to double back around the park but then you can just...
Read moreI can say this was the best attraction in Geneva. The cable car is easy to get to. Take the number 8 bus all the way to the end of the route and its a short walk to the cable car. The signs to get to the cable car were excellent so you wont get lost. It is advisded that you take your passport as you do cross the boarder into France but when we arrived there were no guards around so we walked on through. The ride upto the mountain was only 2 mins once at the top you get amazing veiws everywhere you go. Id suggest walking to the radio tower its a easy half an hour hike up hill ( you can pass a buddhist/tibetian temple on the way). From the radio tower you will have mind blowing views everywhere you look. There is also there tracks that go for another hour that give you even better views of the mountains behide the radio tower, the tracks are well worth it . Id also suggest wearing some good hiking boots and carring water as there are no water taps up the mountain, or on the tracks up to and beyond the radio tower, there is a cafe at the top of the radio tower too. Over all id thought it was the best part of our trip to Geneva the views and photo shots are well...

I checked the Téléphérique du Salève official website before planning my day—it clearly stated the last descent on Wednesdays was 10:45pm. Updated for the 2025 summer season and everything. Great! I thought. Sunset views, maybe a cheeky wine, then glide back down like a smug little mountain goat.
But being a cautious Aussie, I rang to double-check. Call #1: Confusion. Call #2: Flat-out contradiction. Final answer? “No madame, last descent is at 6:45pm.”
I pointed out what the website said. The response? A verbal shrug: “Non. That is not correct.” No explanation. No apology. Just peak French bureaucracy served with a side of baguette-level indifference.
Here’s the kicker: within 30 minutes of that call, the website was magically updated to show different hours (now only Thursday to Saturday for the late descent). Suspicious? Oui. Fortunately, I took a screenshot.
So yes, I stand by this PSA: Do NOT trust the Téléphérique website. Always call ahead. Then call again. Maybe ask a passing goat.
Because, while the views are stunning, the admin is as flaky as a...
