Wendelstein — Local services in Bayrischzell

When you reach at the top by cable car or by train, you see the beautiful view of the alps. There is a point on the right hand side once you get out to see all the alpine range. On the left hand side you have church. Both are very nicely located. There is also a restaurant which offers food. For vegetarian there were 2 dishes (one dumpling with mushroom soup and one potato goulash). Both were quite nice. Above you can see the observatory which looks very near but you have to climb the small mountain which you see in the picture. It is a hike for 30 minutes who have never done any kind of hiking. We were here in the middle of july on a saturday. Not crowded at all but nice. We did the geopark hike which is around the mountain where first you walk up to the observatory which is already halfway!!! Then we walked the rest theough the panorama route, which is the rest of geopark tour. Only last few meters of the geopark hike is up again. Indeed make sure your shoes have some grip. Not recommendable on flipflops. Geopark is nice if you can read a bit of the german. But the view only is worth it already! We brought our own bread and had lunch while some people got married at the tiny church. Ticket 1 adult is 26 euros. Price is a little high but a good hike and a amazing view...

I recently took the Wendelstein cog railway up to the viewing platform and wow what a treat! Yes, the tickets aren’t cheap (around €47 for a round-trip), but every cent is justified by the stunning alpine scenery, the vintage feel of the railcars, and the panoramic views from the summit.
