Das Rheintal, eine der schönsten Landschaften Europas, blickt auf eine über 2.000-jährige Geschichte und unzählige sagenumwobene Geschichte Zurück. Die Route der Rhein-Romantik erstreckt sich von Köln bis Mainz, gesäumt von zahlreichen historischen und landschaftlichen Highlights. Bereits die Römer erkannten die Schönheit dieser weltweit bekannten Fluss-Landschaft und bis heute zeugen die Spuren der Vergangenheit von den geschichtlichen Ereignissen dieser Kultur-Landschaft.

Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts entdeckten zahlreiche Dichter und Künstler aus dem In- und Ausland das wildromantische Rheintal und ließen sich zu ihren Werken inspirieren. Sie begründeten damit die Epoche der Rheinromantik. Zu den berühmtesten Vertretern der Rheinromantik gehören deutsche Künstler wie Clemens Brentano, Richard Wagner und Heinrich Heine. Auch heute noch faszinieren die Werke der Rhein-Romantiker, ebenso wie das Rheintal selbst, Menschen aus aller Welt.

Neben der atemberaubenden Landschaft des Rheintal sind die kleinen idyllischen Orte und die kulturellen und geschichtsträchtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten charakteristisch für das Rheintal. Das UNESCO Welt-Erbe Oberes Mittelrheintal Begeistert mit einer besonders einzigartigen Kulisse: Um einen der wohl bekanntesten Felsen Deutschlands, den Loreley Felsen, ranken zahlreiche Sagen. Die mitunter zum Weinanbau genutzt werden, laden zum Träumen und Spazieren Gehen ein.

Entlang der Route der Rhein-Romantik ist der Obergermanisch-Raetische Limes. Der 550 km lange Limes, einst römischer Grenz-Wall zwischen Römern und Germanen, beginnt bei Wachtturm Nummer 1 in Rheinbrohl am Rhein. Rheinbrohl macht die römische Geschichte der Region lebendig und die Besucher werden interaktiv an das Thema Römer und Limes hherangeführt.

Besonders beeindruckend ist die außerordentliche Dichte an Burgen und Schlössern entlang des Rheins. Weit über 60 Zeit-Zeugen thronen auf den Höhen. Viele der Burgen und Schlösser bieten Besichtigungen an und lassen Besucher in vergangene Zeiten eintauchen. Einige der historischen Bauwerke bieten darüber hinaus Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten an. Wer also einmal wie ein echter Burg-Herr nächtigen möchte, wird entlang des Rheins fündig.

Den wahren Charme des Rheins erlebt man am authentisch ten an Bord eines der vielen Ausflugsschiffe​​. Dort hat man einen einzigartigen Blick auf die vorbeiziehenden Burgen, Schlösser und romantischen Orte. Bereits im 19. Jahrhundert war die Rheinreise per Schiff eine der beliebtesten Ausflugsmöglichkeiten. Denn mit der "Concordia" verkehrte 1827 das erste LLinienschiff zwischen Köln und Mainz. Seit damals führt auch die Köln-Düsseldorfer, kurz KD genannt, im Rahmen kurzweiliger Ausflugsfahrten zu den sagenhaft schönen Landschaften, Orten und Sehenswürdigkeiten zwischen Köln und Mainz. Rajna protiče kroz šest zemalja - Švajcarsku, Kneževinu Lihtenštajn, Austriju, Nemačku, Francusku i Holandiju pre nego što se ulila u Severno more kod Roterdama.
