Next to Giesen (dominated by a potash spoil tip) the small hills are forested and have several walking paths. One path leads to a nature reserve, the Giesen ponds. Here there are several transitional zones in quick succession from ponds to reed beds and boggy areas to scrubland and dry grasslands on the steep slopes, with numerous rare plants and insects. Beyond the ponds there are open meadows (another nature reserve) and good views...
