Die Tollense ist ein ruhiger Fluss mit ein wenig Strömung. Das Wasser ist zumindest im Sommer sehr klar, wodurch man auch so einige Fische zu Gesicht bekommt. Im Sommer gibt es zwischen Altentreptow und Klempenow viele flache und seichte Stellen / Abschnitte, bei denen man als Kajakfahrer aufpassen muss damit man sich nicht fest fährt.
