Here’s a detailed look at some of the most popular trails:

Tegelberg Panorama Trail (Panoramaweg) • Difficulty: Easy • Distance: 1.7 km • Duration: 30-45 minutes This is a short, easy hike that offers stunning views of the surrounding Bavarian Alps, Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Hohenschwangau area. Starting at the mountain station of the Tegelbergbahn cable car, the trail loops around the summit, allowing you to take in the breathtaking scenery with minimal effort. This trail is suitable for families, older adults, and those looking for a leisurely walk.

Tegelberg Summit Trail (Gipfelweg) • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 2.3 km • Duration: 1-1.5 hours This trail starts at the Tegelbergbahn mountain station and leads to the summit of Tegelberg at 1,881 meters. This trail is moderately challenging, with a steady incline, but the effort is well-rewarded with panoramic views from the summit. It’s a great choice for those who want to experience the alpine environment without embarking on a long hike.

Königliche Jagdweg (Royal Hunting Trail) • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 9 km • Duration: 3-4 hours This trail follows the historic route used by Bavarian kings during their hunting expeditions. It starts near the base station of the Tegelbergbahn and winds through dense forests, meadows, and pastures. The trail offers a mix of shaded areas and open vistas, with occasional views of Neuschwanstein Castle.

Tegelberg Ridge Trail (Gratweg) • Difficulty: Hard • Distance: 7 km • Duration: 3-4 hours This is one of the most challenging routes on Tegelberg. It follows a narrow ridge from the mountain station to the summit, offering spectacular views but requiring a good head for heights and surefootedness. The trail is steep and rocky in sections, making it suitable for experienced hikers. The rewards include stunning vistas over the Ammergau Alps and the surrounding valleys.

Tegelberg Base to Summit Trail (Aufstieg zum Tegelberg) • Difficulty: Hard • Distance: 4.5 km one way • Duration: 2-3 hours This trail starts at the Tegelbergbahn base station and ascends directly to the summit. The path is steep and challenging, passing through dense forests and rocky terrain. It’s a demanding hike but offers a sense of accomplishment upon reaching the summit. The descent can be made on foot or by taking the cable car back down.

Schwangau - Tegelberg Loop Trail • Difficulty: Moderate • Distance: 16 km • Duration: 5-6 hours This is a full-day loop trail that starts in the village of Schwangau, ascends to the summit of Tegelberg, and then returns via a different route. The trail takes you through a variety of landscapes, including forests, meadows, and...

Love it, this hiking trail it's just beautiful... It might be a bit challenging if you are not prepared or fit for the task ( about 3h hiking) but it's definitely worth it.

The view it's magnificent and with a nice weather it's perfect for a breath of fresh air.

There's also a fine restaurant at the middle of the journey for a small rest and once on the top you might just enjoy the beauty of nature or might want to continue another 3h and reach the Neuschwanstein castle by foot.

It took us 7h in total, and we're exhausted at the end... But it was a...

There is an amazing hike from the car park at the bottom of the cable car that takes you past Neuschwanstein Castle, up to Queen Mary’s Bridge for views of the castle. Going further up the peak, there are beautiful views of Alpsee lake. The trail at some points has fallen trees and a few rocks that are awkward to pass, so be prepared to climb over (or under) one or two fallen trees! There is a pub serving food at the top by the cable car. Cable car costs approx 14€. When you get down there’s a...
