I moved from Accra to Nkawkaw in September 2020. I can say on authority that every spot at Nkawkaw town gives you a pleasant view of the famous Kwahu Mountains. You can see the Easter paragliding ground zero just by finding a good spot. With the advent of drones, I dont know why there are so few sights and sounds of Kwahu mountains on the internet. A drone footage of the mountain would really be expensive.
During Easter celebrations in Ghana (March or April), the Nkawkaw streets become a beautiful street market, choked with tourists and celebrants. Nkawkaw actually provides two entry points into the Kwahu Easter Mountains; the Atibie (ay-tee-bee-ay) entry point and the Mpraeso (M-pra-yeh-so) entry point. People travelling to the Afram plains use these entry points and join a ferry to cross the River Afram.
Nkawkaw has a Central Market, close to it is the most popular Agbogbloshi (A-gbo-gblo-shi) market. The Nkawkaw new transport station also has some shops and retailers (but don't expect too much here. You are sure to get bread, fried yam, fried turkey called 'Tso-fi' in Ghana, tiger nuts, coconut, mobile money, phone accessories, soft drinks and yes music).
The Central Market and the Agbogbloshi markets are located at opposite sides of the Accra-Nkawkaw-Kumasi road. If you can't find anything at one, you find it at the other, just a walking distance.
You can get all kinds of foodstuff here, all kinds. Drinks, smoked meat and fish, Spices and medicinal aromatics, dresses, shoes, just about everything. There are big provision shops with moderate-low prices around here, there are decent eating places, pharmacies too, and transport is always available. Just a bit higher at night.
Sunday is the major Market Day. Farm produce are fresh from the farm and cheaper on the market day. Clothes, shoes and gadgets are also new. Thursday is also a booming market day but not as Sunday.
What else? Weeks ago, traffic lights were installed so the traffic is better. But expect traffic 12noon-2pm and from 4:30pm-6pm. You always get transport but like I said before, fares would go up at night.
You won't find many washrooms but I often use the nice and simple washroom at the Ghana Commercial Bank premises, right opposite the Nkawkaw Police Station.
Lest I forget, there are at least 4 or 5 Radio stations in and near the market area. Fuel stations are also available here.
If you miss Nkawkaw market area, the next big commercial area would be Konongo, Ejisu or Kumasi. If you miss it heading to Accra, then you get even more chances to stop over at Anyinam, Bunso, Suhum (which is a big district), Nsawam, Amasaman etc.
That's...
