My recent stay with my family at Treasure Island resort in Big Ada, Accra was an unforgettable experience filled with a mix bag of remarkable positives and negatives. The island's scenic beauty and breathtaking views provided an enchanting backdrop for a truly magical getaway. The resort's diverse range of activities exceeded expectations and offered excellent value for money. From thrilling horseback rides to the refreshing swimming pool equipped with a giant slide, every moment was brimming with excitement. The abundance of serene spots to unwind and relax around the resort created a haven of tranquility. The boat trips to the neighboring Crocodile Island and estuary were nothing short of captivating, offering an adventurous glimpse into nature's wonders. The in-house petting zone which included Camels was a delightful surprise, adding a unique touch to the overall experience. The food was generally ok but the goat khebabs were just exceptional. The picturesque nature of the resort and surrounding areas gave us a lot of photos for lasting memories. Our Chalet was very nice and comfy and we felt very much at home. We also booked additional rooms for our family and they were also very nice. Now here comes the hard part. While the overall experience at Treasure Island resort was fantastic, there were certain aspects that did not quite meet expectations. the additional rooms we booked took several hours to be ready so we huddled in the Chalet. The Chalet despite its tidiness appeared aged and needing maintenance, falling short of being pristine. Our kitchen sink was literally falling off its stand. The same was for the locks in the rooms which kept locking us out. The hotel stay was also marred by an average level of service, which seemed to struggle to keep up with the high standards set by the resort's other offerings. There was literally no cleaning of our rooms and changing of our sheets for the period of our stay. The lights went out a few times but the time it took for the standby generator to kick in was below par for a resort of its standard. The taps stopped flowing briefly at one point in time and that was a nightmare albeit a short one.The waitstaff, though trying their best, seemed to be operating under challenging circumstances, leading to delays and occasional inconsistencies in service. They always seemed overwhelmed. Worryingly, in their quest to play contemporary music, our kids had to endure heavy cussing and profanity blaring through the loud speakers. In summary, Treasure Island resort, offers an enchanting and exciting escape with its scenic beauty, diverse activities, and delightful amenities. While the hotel stay could have been more aligned with the rest of the experience, the overall positives still outweighed the negatives, making it a destination well worth considering for an unforgettable getaway. I however do not recommend a stay at the resort, instead a day's visit would be worth your...
Read moreWhere to start. Ada is absolutely beautiful and Treasure Island has so many diversions, family friendly activities which our kids enjoyed ( pool, boat rides, swings, water slide, camels and baby crocs to see). The pool and slide were favourites and our kids spent most of their time in there. BE CAUTIOUS in the pool as it is very shallow and I skinned my knees multiple times. Breakfast was great, a great selection right by the water. Food menu was quite limited but we enjoyed everything we ate. That being said the place is really dated giving it a feeling of an island of broken toys at times that is in serious need of a face-lift. Half the games in the game room were broken and not working, the 5D theatre the website boasts of was also in disrepair. To top it off, two of our rooms were not available for check in until 5pm and despite that the hotel staff were in a hurry to pack us on our way when the clock struck 11 on check out day, not offering any discount or grace in light of the delayed check in. We were lucky we also booked a chalet for us and the younger kids and it was ready when we arrived so the 8 of us had somewhere to perch until the other two rooms were ready. Aside that whoever I texted with on whatsapp to book the reservation was rude and couldnt seem to be bothered with my questions and so my husband and I had to keep calling the front desk to get clarity from a very friendly concierge I Will admit. In the chalet, a lot of things were peeling on the furniture, there was no internet until we requested for it and then a router was brought. Our kitchen faucet was falling off. I will admit the manager Jeff was lovely and tried his best to help us deal with our concerns such as the water not following and the door to our room locking behind us from the inside on a number of occasions . Jeff arranged a great boat cruise with the best captain who knew everything about the area and gave us some great history lessons and information. We had a great time with our kids overall but I would say make treasure Island a day trip. It is overpriced if you get a chalet and stay the night when you consider value for money, however the picturesque views and friendly staff might make it worth it for you depending...

Treasure Island seems to be a high end place. It was one of the most expensive place we booked, but when we got there it was a big letdown.
We came with the plan just to hang out near the swimming pool for two days, reading a bit, have a beer and just relax. We arrived a few days after the Asafotufiam Festival, (which brings hordes of people to the area) in the evening. We checked in and got appointed a room that was reeking of mold. Rooms had AC and a soft matrass, a rarity in Ghanian hotels. The moldy stench disappeared a bit after turning on the AC. At diner, it turned out they only had 5 small dished left for us to choose from. Non of which we really liked, but ok. That happened before, no stress.
The next day however, we got aware that the swimming pool was out of order. The water level was low and staff was cleaning the walls. During breakfast (which was not particularly good and accompanied by very loud, heavy bass hiphopmusic (at 9 am), we also had to find out that the WiFi was down as well. And since Treasure Island is, well, an Island, you kind a need internet if you have to make plans because the only thing there (a swimming pool) is out of order.
The real problem however is not the swimming pool and WiFi being out of order, or the kitchen running low on stock. The real problem was none of these things were mentioned to us upon check-in. When we asked for a refund (which was a first time for us, ever), staff started to panic but finally they reached the manager by phone. He bluntly told us that Treasure Island has a no-refund policy and that because of that rule he could not do anything. To me it seemed more that he didn't WANT to.
Which of course is shamefull. We felt mislead. If you let people pay the full price, than you have to make sure they can enjoy the facilities. If the facilities are down, you have to mention it to guests upon check in, if you don't do that: you should refund. Simple. We left after one night, opting out on staying another night on this not-so-treasurish place. Besides that and on a different subject: it is ridiculous to keep camels in a cage just for guest...
