The island is beautiful and wild. I walked the whole perimeter in 4 hours last summer. However, the trails in half of the island have not been maintained and they are either densely vegetated or deteriorated which makes it pretty unsafe. I wouldn’t normally mind if I was prepared but it is really irresponsible for the local authorities to have a rather misleading map for the island without a warning of the condition of the trails. Also, most of the beaches shown on the map(like Brakini) are not really accessible on foot, which is also not stated anywhere on the map. We freaked out when we miraculously managed to arrive at Brakini beach only to find that all people had accessed the beach by BOAT! We had to go through hell to get back to the main port on foot. 4 stars for the...
