Greatly lacking capacity during peak season. Horribly undersized for the massive amount of tourists that Rhodos receives. Extremely chaotic and there was not a single seat at any of the places to get food much less just getting a seat anywhere. It’s survival of the fittest and should you be a person with a disability or be an older person with weak physical strength then look forward to one of the most uncomfortable airport experiences of your life. You can already imagine the left to the hyenas kinda feeling.
With the economy of Rhodos being dependent on tourism it’s incredible that they don’t have a better experience for the visitors of the island. I know sections are recently renovated but little does it matter when the physical space is lacking. This is last thing you experience when leaving this island.
The two lounges were closed for high season without any clear information about this online. Again. The lack of answers when you ask people face to face working at the airport is astonishing as well as their attitude. Maybe the airport should invest in some service training for the staff although they probably don’t care since the whole experience was pretty consistent.
Sure it’s high season and many travelers but it’s the job of the staff to help them out. Preferably with a smile so they remember the Greek “hospitality” before leaving the island.
We had purchased longe access and fast track via our ticket and lounge subscription. Guess what. The fast track was a security guard with an ill temper and cursing us on Greek for asking him multiple times why we’re not in the fast track lane because he was unable to mutter a clear answer that not only dogs would be able to pick up.
SAS bag drop was a joke as well having to line up with half the passengers of the plane to be able to drop the bags even though we paid extra and did the check-in process online. I guess for airport staff in Rhodes airport there’s no reason to go out of your way to provide a good service and organize a bag drop counter when you can make multiple travelers miserable at the same time. Who do they think they are anyway coming here and contributing to the islands economy anyway?!
All-in-all. I would rather select another travel destination next time based on the absolute horrid last experience of the vacation.
1 star because I’m surprised and actually a little impressed that such incompetent and unfriendly staff is actually able to the planes into the air.
I would rather stub my toe. Multiple times. On the same toe than go back to this airport.
Bonus information: Lastly we sat on the tarmac for 1.20 mins before being able to take...
Read moreUpon arrival, if you have a disability lanyard around your neck, you have to queue outside in snaking lanes for what feels like ages. When you eventually get into the building, thankfully a lady was there who opened the barrier to let people with disabilities through and took us to the front of the queue. That was great, but this service should be extended to the outside area because the queue is long and can cause massive stress and anxiety due to the crowds. A separate lane from the very beginning would be highly beneficial.Going back to the airport a week later, thankfully they had a separate lane with no queue for people with a disability, meaning we didn't have to queue in those snake-like lanes for ages. However, once you go up the lift, you have to go through two types of security with NO lanes for people with a disability. This resulted in large crowds and long queues without any special provision to get to the front. After you get through that ordeal—and the stress and panic attack caused by having to queue while disabled—you then go to the waiting lounge. This area is very busy, and there is nowhere to sit and relax without hundreds of people surrounding you, or sitting directly opposite you, facing and watching you, especially if you are having a full-blown panic attack. Why are all the seats facing each other? I really dislike that setup. Usually, you can find a hidden place somewhere to relax, but there wasn't anywhere tucked away from the crowds and noise.Rhodes is a lovely place for a holiday, but I won't be going again because I have Asperger's Syndrome, social anxiety, and panic disorders. I cannot stand in queues or crowds without feeling terrible, only to then find out that after security, you have to sit in a large hall with hundreds, if not thousands, of people. Most airports have pubs and restaurants where I can usually find a quiet area to rest before the flight.Another issue was that when you are called to the gate, you have to join a large queue moving in between people sitting on either side, which also made me very anxious. Perhaps they could build small dome-like tunnels to separate the crowds and queuing area. And special seprete lanes like you have were you drop off your luggage but upstaires to get through security. and those dome hallways would seprete things and make it more carmer...
Read moreRhodes Airport – Is a catalogue of serious service failures. I’ve been through this airport twice now, and both times were exactly the same nightmare. Nothing seems to improve — if anything, it’s getting worse. The staff do whatever they want, with zero communication or care for passengers. They close tills and check-in desks while there are still long queues, without even bothering to inform anyone. You can stand there waiting for half an hour only to be told, rudely, that the desk is “closed” and you need to queue again somewhere else. No announcements, no signs, no apologies — just blank faces and attitude. From check-in to security to boarding, staff are rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Eye-rolling, shouting, ignoring people — it’s like they’re doing you a favour by being there. There’s no organisation or coordination; everyone is stressed and confused, and the staff don’t seem to care at all. The queues are ridiculous — hundreds of people packed into narrow, airless halls with no air-conditioning, barely any seating, and no guidance. You can have multiple flights all checking in at the same time in the same area, and nobody seems to be managing it. It feels like pure chaos. The facilities are dirty and outdated — bins overflowing, toilets in poor condition, barely any places to sit, and no working air-con in the heat. The departure lounge is cramped and uncomfortable, with little effort made to maintain even basic cleanliness. Boarding is another disaster — random queues, poor communication, gates changing at the last minute, and staff barking instructions with zero clarity. You feel rushed, disrespected, and treated like cattle from start to finish. This is supposed to be an international airport serving one of Greece’s biggest tourist destinations, yet it operates like a disorganised bus station. After two identical experiences years apart, it’s clear the issues are deep-rooted — rude staff, poor management, and complete lack of respect for travellers. Honestly, it’s the worst airport experience I’ve had anywhere in Europe. If the Greek tourism board cares about its reputation, this airport desperately needs a total...
