It’s really a pity that the Grevena-Kozani Geopark remains an off the beaten path destination, a place that is virtually unknown to the broader public. The whole region looks abandoned and does not have the proper infrastructure to receive guests and nature-lovers who would like to have mild outdoor activities. However, it has unique natural attractions such as a dense oak tree forest, unspoiled woodland and rivers. The Geopark itself, relatively recently registered in UNESCO’S World Geoparks list, is a very interesting place with unique geological formations and very scenic forest areas, especially in autumn and winter. Read moreThe place is absolutely magic in terms of natural beauty and geologic richness. There's no question about it! Yet, what could be a place to visit and appreciate nature is now completely abandoned and in some parts, dangerous to walk through. And the worse part of all is the fact that that's a Geopark place and geologic heritage that Greece should be proud of and therefore look for ways to preserve. As you can see in the images I share, the wooden structure is in an advanced state of degradation and everything seems to be left to the abundance, leaving human traces behind (as always!).
