Η Υψηλή Γέφυρα Ευρίπου (αναφέρεται συνήθως ως Νέα γέφυρα Χαλκίδας) είναι καλωδιωτή γέφυρα πάνω από τον πορθμό του Ευρίπου στην Εύβοια, κοντά στη Χαλκίδα. Αποτελεί τμήμα της οδικής παράκαμψης της Χαλκίδας και ενώνει τη βοιωτική ακτή κοντά στο εργοστάσιο τσιμέντων με την ευβοϊκή στο λόφο Μπαταριά, μέσω του Αυτοκινητοδρόμου Σχηματαρίου -Χαλκίδας. Έχει συνολικό μήκος 694,5 μέτρα, ωφέλιμο πλάτος 12,5 μέτρα και ελεύθερο ύψος 34,5 μέτρα. Το πάχος του καταστρώματος είναι 45 εκατοστά, το λεπτότερο στο κόσμο. Η κατασκευή του έργου ξεκίνησε το Μάιο του 1985 και ολοκληρώθηκε το 1993. Τα εγκαίνιά της τελέστηκαν στις 9 Ιουλίου 1993. Το κόστος του έργου έφτασε τα 2,5 δις δραχμές (με τιμές εκείνης της εποχής). Μέχρι το 2004 που εγκαινιάστηκε η Γέφυρα Ρίου - Αντιρρίου ήταν η μεγαλύτερη καλωδιωτή γέφυρα στην Ελλάδα. Η γέφυρα αποτελείται από τις προσβάσεις και το κεντρικό τμήμα. Οι γέφυρες προσβάσεως έχουν μήκος 4 × 35,875 μέτρα (Βοιωτία) και 4 × 39 μέτρα (Εύβοια). Το κεντρικό τμήμα της γέφυρας, μήκους 395 μέτρων είναι καλωδιωτό με κεντρικό άνοιγμα 215 μέτρα και πλευρικά 2 × 90 μέτρα. Το κεντρικό τμήμα συγκρατείται από καλώδια ανά 6 μέτρα περίπου. Η θεμελίωση των πυλώνων έγινε σε βάθος περίπου 28 μέτρων. Έχει ληφθεί πρόνοια προστασίας του έργου από πρόσκρουση πλοίων. Η κατασκευή της αποτέλεσε ένα έργο πνοής για την πόλη καθώς όλοι οι επισκέπτες και τα βαριά οχήματα δεν είναι υποχρεωμένοι να περνάνε από την παλιά γέφυρα και συνεπώς από το κέντρο της πόλης, αλλά μέσω της υψηλής γέφυρας και της περιφερειακής οδού μπορούν να μετακινηθούν προς την πόλη αλλά και προς την Βόρεια ή Νότια Εύβοια, χωρίς να επιβαρύνουν το κέντρο της πόλης, πιο γρήγορα...
