Camp Century was a United States military base built beneath the Greenland ice sheet during the Cold War, operational from 1959 to 1967. The base was designed as an underground facility powered by a portable nuclear reactor, the PM-2A, making it one of the first facilities to utilize nuclear technology in a remote location. Consisting of tunnels reinforced with steel and wood, Camp Century featured various facilities such as living quarters, research laboratories, a hospital, a chapel, and operational areas. In addition to serving as a research hub for ice and climate studies, Camp Century was part of Project Iceworm, a secret plan to construct a network of missile silos beneath the Greenland ice sheet to counter the Soviet threat.    Read moreCamp Century is a budget hotel for Americans visiting the Greenland Dogsled races. Unfortunately, one of the dogs escaped, but the staff did a great job of trying to get him back.
The recreation possibilities provided are fun and generous, I especially enjoyed the local sightseeing trips, and the outdoor grill party was one of the highlights of my stay.
The hotel is a bit run-down, in need of some minor carpentry repairs and TLC,(both the indoor and outdoor pools were empty for some reason?!) but still a bargain...

Almost reminded me of my uncle Clark and aunt Ellen on a theme park trip years ago where nothing was as advertised and turned out to be a hell hole. The Staff was very stiff . Too much glow from rooms called laboratories that kept us up all night. Have to chisel your way thru hall ways !...
