We had planned to detour here, but then it also ended up being on the way to where we were headed anyways. It’s on a long gravel road, that continues on so a little rocky. But otherwise there was maybe one car when we got there and they were leaving so we had the place to ourselves. Beautiful view, no hike to get to the waterfall. Gorgeous view of the waterfall and the valley. If it’s super out of the way and you’re in a time crunch, I don’t know if it’s totally worth a detour. But if you’re wanting something else to see and/or if it’s on your way, highly...

Rather unmarked little stop with a nice waterfall. A good rest before climbing the rest of 939 which is pretty tricky from the few km with a gradient of 18% (climb 18 meters for every 100 meters forwards). Not protective guard rail and slippery gravel. Not a place to stall the engine ! Or face a large truck barreling down the road ! Also visibility around the corner = 0. I was not too reassured there. At least it was dry (it rained 1 km later, which made the road...

The road to get here is a gravel adventure - it's not one of Iceland's "F-roads", but once you drive this road, you'll wonder just how rough the F-roads get! 😄 Pay attention to the signs at either end of the road that advise caution - the road is generally closed in winter, and is probably challenging in bad weather. But is the drive worth it? Oh, yes - this is an epic stretch of road, and you're rewarded with this gorgeous waterfall with few other people around....

The road getting there was quite rough, especially if you’re driving a caravan, but the view and especially Folaldafoss itself was absolutely worth the effort. A stunning waterfall, definitely worth the detour if you’re exploring the area!
