Nestled amidst the azure waters of the Andaman Sea, Viper Island stands as a testament to both beauty and history. As I set foot on its shores, I felt an instant connection with the tranquil surroundings and the rich narrative that envelops this island. Allow me to share my unforgettable experience at Viper Island.

From the moment the ferry approached its shores, I was captivated by the pristine beauty of Viper Island. The lush greenery, fringed by crystal-clear waters, creates an idyllic setting that seems almost surreal. As I stepped onto the pier, I couldn't help but admire the untouched natural splendor that greeted me at every turn.

One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the historical remnants scattered across the island. The infamous Cellular Jail, visible from the shores of Viper Island, serves as a poignant reminder of India's struggle for independence. Standing amidst the ruins, I could almost hear the echoes of the past, imagining the hardships endured by those who were imprisoned within its walls. It was a humbling experience that left a lasting impression on me.

Aside from its historical significance, Viper Island offers plenty of opportunities for exploration and relaxation. I found myself meandering along its winding paths, each corner revealing a new vista more breathtaking than the last. Whether it was basking in the sun-kissed beaches or marveling at the vibrant marine life while snorkeling in its pristine waters, every moment spent on Viper Island felt like a treasure to cherish.

The island's serene ambiance also makes it an ideal spot for introspection and solitude. As I sat by the shore, watching the gentle waves lap against the rocks, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over me. In today's fast-paced world, finding such tranquility is truly a rare gift, and Viper Island offers just that—a sanctuary for the soul.

In conclusion, my journey to Viper Island was nothing short of magical. From its rich history to its unparalleled natural beauty, every aspect of this island left me spellbound. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking solace amidst breathtaking surroundings, Viper Island has something to offer to everyone. It's a destination that beckons you to unravel its mysteries and bask in its timeless allure—a place I will undoubtedly return to, time...

VIPER ISLAND

Viper Island is best known for the prison that was used before the notorious cellular prison was constructed in 1906. It’s around 8 kilometers North West of Port Blair and one can access the island by boat or ferry. There are two pretty convincing stories as to the origin of the name of the island.

One states that the island was named after a ship by the name that carried Archibald Blair to the island in the year 1789. The other, and the more unnerving one states that the presence of a large number of Viper snakes on the island is what has led to its naming.

Some of the greatest personalities linked to the Indian Freedom struggle have spent their last days here at Viper jail. Documented evidence exists that Maharajas and Peasants were treated alike and tortured to the hilt for having played a part in trying to overthrow British rule. Tourists’ today flock to the island to get a glimpse of the ruins of this jail and for a moment feel like a part of history. Apart from this, Viper Island is also a wonderful...

This tiny island is situated near Port Blair. This island was once used as a women's prison and place for execution. This place doesn't gets much tourist as there's nothing touristy stuff. The island offers a small jungle hike. If you wish to have a hike you can visit the rest of the island otherwise you can just visit the prison area and wait for your boat to leave. The island has a couple of local shops offering packaged snacks, soft drinks and water. The price will be more than the MRP as these local people charge extra for carrying the items till the island. Drone photography is not allowed on the island.

This small island was the site of the jail where the British used to imprison convicts and political prisoners. It has the ruins of a gallows atop a hillock. 🏚
