Kota Betta peak is an important destination for tourists visiting Coorg region and are keen to go for a half a day trek.

Trek is moderately difficult for new trekkers however can be considered easy for regular trekkers. The climb is not too steep and takes about two hours with ten fifteen minutes rest mid way. The trekking route has leeches in the first half of the trek so one has to be prepared for protection against leeches. One need to physically check any leeches stuck to shoes/socks on the way. Anti leeches socks provide good protection.

The second half of the climb is bit rocky. The views of valley on the other side are fantastic. One has to carry minimum two water bottles and some fruits/snacks , choclates etc to energize on the way. On the top the views all around are wonderful. On a clear day one can see Kushalnagar, Madikere towns very clearly.

There is a Shiva temple on the top which opens only once a month. There are two/three natural ponds near temple. The area on the top is flat with thick grass.

The return journey is comfortable and get completed in an hour and half. Preferably commence the trek by 0700-0800 to avoid rains during latter part of day. Carrying rain cover is must as weather changes rapidly in minutes.

The route for trek marked on Google map is not accurate . For proper trek one has to take a side (a narrow cement top road) from the main road going towards kote Betta temple. There is no marking of this narrow cement road on the map. After traveling on this narrow cement road one reaches the open space where one can do the car parking and then commence the trek.

There are options where Jeep Safari would drop the trekkers and then bring them back, however same could be costly affair. The open space where vehicle is parked is inhabited by one/ two farming families. So one must inform the family about parking of personal car. It is advisable to take a trek guide along to avoid missing the correct route who can communicate in local language.

Overall a good trekking options however not being encouraged by the local administration and one find only few treekkers...

It's very narrow, with steep inclines and sharp turns that require careful maneuvering. Drivers need to be experienced and confident in their abilities to navigate such conditions. While the challenging drive may deter some, for others, it's part of the adventure and makes the destination even more rewarding.
