The hill which is famous for its ‘Sadashiva Temple’ is 1,000 feet above sea-level holding mythological secrets dating back to the age of Pandavas.

The legend According to a legend, Sri Krishna (Lord Hari) accompanied with Arjuna (Nara) offered penance here to free themselves from the sins committed during the Mahabharatha’s Kurukshetra war. Lord Hari as a sign of his visit sculpted Shanka (Conch), Chakra (Wheel), Gadha (Heavy Weapon) and Padma (Lotus) giving rise to the four ‘Teerthakoopas’ (Holy Ponds) which are present even today. Arjuna purified himself by bathing in these holy ponds and installed the Shivalinga and worshipped it and hence the hill gets its unique name ‘Narahari Sadashiva’. The astounding hill is topped with the ‘Narahari Parvatha Sadashiva Temple’ which engulfs every visitor with serenity. It could be pilgrimage to the devotees or an expedition for the trekkers but it takes a climb of 333 steps to reach the top. The boards that say ‘Shiva Shiva’ on the sides of the railing can be a motivation for the devotees to stick to their climb and hence honour their deity. Once you reach the top, the four ‘Teerthakoopas’ are an unbelievable sight as they are perfectly in the shape of a Shanka, Chakra,...

Situated about a thousand feet above the sea level, by the side of NH 48,between Mangalore and Puttur, this hill is locally called Narahari Parvatha. The devotees reaching the hilltop after climbing more than 300 steps will be swayed off their feet by the breathtaking views awaiting them. Nature in all it's glory... Greenery, river Netravati, railway track... The ancient Nara(Arjuna) Hari(Shree Krishna) hill is supposed to be the site where Arjuna and Shree Krishna performed penance after the Mahabharata war by praying to the Sadashiva linga ,installed by Arjuna. The four perennial ponds atop the hill ...Shankha(conch shaped), Chakra(disc/wheel), Gadha(mace)and Padma (lotus) symbolic of the items carried on the four hands of Vishnu, are supposed to be the creations of Shree Krishna. Commendable renovation work has been going on since the last two decades by an able committee making it a religious and...

Must visit place. Hilltop enjoyed the scenic beauty, greenery, sunset. On the top there is a temple. You can take car upto top but no parking space. Better to park at bottom and climb by stairs. From Mangalore it took nearly 1 hour by car. The sunset from the top of hill is just awesome. You can see mountains all around from the top. It was lush greenery during rainy season. Not crowded. Washrooms are available on the top of hill. Some historical connection with Mahabharata is there with the hill. Caretaker will guide and explain everything. No fee to visit the place. It is a religious place basically. From main road it is just 200 mts inside. Google map...

Most amazing view. Serene. Calm. Meditative. A must visit. The hill has a SadaShiva temple. Krishna and Arjuna (along with other pandavas) came to the place in repentance after the Mahabharata war. When they reached there, the sun had set and they had to halt. They consecrated the Shivalinga and made ponds for their bathing (Chakra teertha, Padma theertha, Shankha teertha) and for the abhisheka of the Shivalinga (Gadha teertha). You can see these ponds by the temple even today. You can take your vehicle to the top, but it may take a bit of an effort. Stairs are available for an easy walk. 333 steps to reach the top. Not too difficult. A must visit if you're around Mangalore.
