Green Chromide Homestays is definitely much much better than what the pictures can describe. Honestly, the pictures can never do justice to how beautiful and serene this place is.
So me and my husband were looking for a short trip within 100kms of Trivandrum for the Valentine's day. We searched the internet and found out about Munroe island and Green Chromide homestays. We booked this through the telephone by calling the number we found on google. We were having an extremely busy week and were in need of a relaxing weekend and were so happy that we made the decision to come here. Firstly the cottage and view itself was absolutely lovely. The cottage is fully made out of wood and is literally a few meters from the river front. The cottage has a private pier with a lovely sit-out where in they serve the food. The riverside has a beautiful breeze blowing all the time which keeps this area cool even in the afternoon. The room is quite spacious and well furnished. The room gets a bit hot during the afternoon but they have an a/c fitted which does keeps the temperatures very comfortable.
The highlight of the place are the hosts (Sunaina, Midhun and Bipin), they are such a joy to talk to and are super hospitable. They surprised us in the night by baking a cake for us for valentines, I nearly had tears down my eyes. We were so busy that we hardly planned anything and these guys made the night so special for us. They also setup the dining table with beautiful fairy lights.
The food here was so good, they made us some karimeen for dinner and gosh it was definitely one of the best I've had. We had some lovely Idiyappam and stew for breakfast. For lunch, we had some freshly made crab roast with a mini sadhya. I suppose I am using too many superlatives but gosh the food was really good and would definitely be one of my top 3 reasons to visit this place regularly.
Definitely a must visit place for people who are visiting kerala or for people...

Check-in time was at 2 pm though we reached a bit late. Drove to this place and locating it was a bit tricky, given a steep bend from the main road which was almost invisible to us and the quiet residential area in which it was located.
The hosts have a space between their house and the river which they have beautifully converted to a couple of stays. The place still has privacy for the guests as it is located in an independent compound with a narrow street invetween. We stayed at the wooden house and the room was sufficient for two adults and two kids. The bathroom and room were well maintained with instructions marked everywhere on how to handle each item, which is better than someone explaining them in-person. The air-conditioners were effectively working. Between the wooden house and the river there is a beautiful space with hammocks slung from trees and multiple dining spaces under shades, distributed in a decent lawn. Yes, this is a place to relax and enjoy the view of the river and the activities across it. Kids loved the hammocks and the flora around it. The place was well-lit in the dark.
How did I miss the hospitality of the hosts!! Sunaina, Midhun, Vipin - they were all very interactive and assisted us whenever we had any need. Even the kids got comfortable with them. They also let us park our car within their campus and arranged for a sunset canoe ride all the way to the Ashtamudi lake and back which was also great.
Food was great. We ordered dinner and breakfast was complimentary. We made sure nothing was left behind as it tasted great and homely. The caretaker was also nice and humble which was a feather in the cap.
Overall a great experience and as I mentioned the hosts while leaving, we left the place wishing that we had...

Our stay at Green Chromide on Munroe Island was truly unforgettable—the most magical place on the island.
The bungalow was just as beautiful as in the pictures—comfortable, clean, and located right at the edge of the river.
Dining and relaxing with the amazing views, surrounded by the sounds of cicadas, made for such a peaceful and serene experience. The hammocks and beautiful fairy lights around the property added a magical touch to the atmosphere.
What made the experience even more exceptional was the hospitality. We visited during Onam - Sunaina, Midhun and Vipin and their family were exceptional hosts, going above and beyond in every way to make our stay special. They helped us arrange everything starting from tuk-tuks, crossing the river, afternoon boat rides across Munroe narrow canals, we also took kayak for early morning, train bookings, and food if needed - ensuring we had a seamless experience. They also arranged surprise motorbike trip for us! That was amazing experience! We also could experience traditinal Onam celebrations and meal Onam Sadhya. Thanks to Sunaina I could wear first time in my life thaditonal Onam Setmundu. We helped - but their kids done most of it - to do flower pookalam for luck and prosperity.
The homemade vegetarian food was delicious, we could always arrange every day something different. Sunaina also recommended local dining spots like Jai Javan & Dill Kush, which were another fantastic food experience! If you seafood and crab lover - go there! It felt like we were treated as good friends or family, and the care and effort they put into making us feel at home made the entire stay unique. We brought beautiful memories from our stay!
Highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic and heartwarming experience on...
