Punarjani Guha (Punarjani Cave) is a mystical or holy place that is a 150 m long narrow natural tunnel, situated in Bhoothanmala around 2 km away from Thiruvilwamala Vilwadrinatha Temple. It is believed to have been carved out by Lord Viswakarma, on the orders of Devendran following the pray of Parasuram. The Punarjani Noozhal, the crawling through the Punarjani cave, is an important local ritual. The crawl is said to be difficult, but to remove all sins from the devotee. Only men are allowed to do the noozhal, women can visit the cave but will not get rid of their sins. The devotees first cleanse their bodies by bathing in the Papanasini Thirtham. Then they enter the cave without a light, in the dark, they need about 45 minutes to reach the other end. Then they cleanse their body by bathing again in Papanasini Thirtham and thereafter dip in Pathalathirtha located at the starting point of the Punarjani. Human beings are allowed to enter only on Guruvayoor Ekadasi day (the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi day of the Vrichikam (November/December). Still, we can go near it and take photos.

This is one of a famous tourist attractions in Thiruvilwamala. It is a trek away from Perungottorishi road. It is known for its religious significance. There is a cave(guha/gufa) here on the cliff which opens up for one day only on Guruvayoor Ekadashi. Bhakts from all over India, specially south India come here on this day to complete a ritual. They crawl through this tunnel cave which takes about 25 minutes to do. It is believed that a person who crawls and completes this journey through this rocky cave frees himself from all the sins and it's like his second birth. Women are not allowed to go through this ritual.

I went for trekking as the route is cleared for famous Panarjani noozhal ritual on December 14th 2021 . The route is through dense forest so only recommended to visit near Guruvayoor ekadashi so the path get cleared for Panarjani Noozhal . Awesome view point from top of hill.
