Buddhism which started as an off shoot of Hinduism in India, has spread across the world to become the 4th largest religion in the world. There are many Buddhist monasteries in India which preach the peaceful teachings of Buddha. One such monastery is in Southern Odisha in Jirang. It is nearly 80-85 kms from the town of Berhampur.

So, two of my friends and I set out on a journey on our bikes to find Lord Buddha. After travelling 50 kms from Berhampur, we reached Taptapani. At one look it may look like your average Indian town. But there is a temple here built around a natural hot water spring which is said to possess medicinal properties. There is also a deer park maintained by the forest department.

After stopping for a while, we continued on our path. Asking for directions, diverting off the route for few kilometers and stopping by for an occasional cup of tea we finally reached the monastery.

It is known as Padmasambhava Mahavihara monastery and was inaugurated by Dalai Lama. It is complete with the main temple complex, residential buildings, a canteen and lush gardens. Here are some beautiful pictures that will take you through the monastery.

There was a waterfall approximately 10-15 kms from there. There was quite a crowd there as it was a famous picnic spot. We earlier had plans to take bath but as it was getting late and cold we abandoned the plan. The place was clean and looked marvelous with thick forests in the background. It was an ideal place for clicking photos.

Overall we had a great day and the monastery was the highlight of the whole journey. Who would have thought that such a great place exists in midst of dense forests of Southern Odisha? India truly never ceases to amaze us….

Want to get Tibetan vibes in our homeland Odisha ? . Just head to Jirang where you can find the elegant Buddhist sculpture known as The Padmasambhava Mahavihara Monastery. It is also known as Thupten Mindrolling Monastery located at Chandragiri, Gajapati district, Odisha as the main monastaray belonging to the Ripa Lineage. It is said to be the largest Buddhist monastery in Eastern India. It was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in January 2010. Chinese invasion and occupation of Tibet in 1959 forced about 85,000 Tibetans including their religious and political head His Holiness 14th Dalailama to seek shelter in India and other places. Then Chandragiri, about 80 kilometers from Berhampur a southern town of Odisha, was chosen as one of the main six camps / settlements established in the country. The Tibetan refugees who stay at Jiranga or which is also popularly known as Chandragiri, Odisha, call this place as Phuntsokling, which in Tibetan translates to -"Land of Happiness and Plenty" It is built in the Atanpuri style of architecture of Nalanda by architects from Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan assisted by local masons. ଓଡିଶା ର ଗଜପତି ଜିଲ୍ଲା ର ଜିରାଙ୍ଗ ରେ ଥିବା ଏହି ବୁଦ୍ଧ ମନ୍ଦିର ପୂର୍ବ ଭାରତ ର ସବୁଠାରୁ ବଡ ଓ ଲୋକପ୍ରିୟ ଧାର୍ମିକ ସ୍ଥଳୀ ଅଟେ. ଭୁବନେଶ୍ବର ରୁ ଆପଣ ତପ୍ତପାଣି ରାସ୍ତା ଦେଇ ସିଧା ସଳଖ ଭାବରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ରାସ୍ତା ରେ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଗିରି ବୌଦ୍ଧ ବିହାର ରେ ପହଂଚି ପାରିବେ. ଏଠାରେ ତିବତୀୟ ମାନେ ବହୁ ସଂଖ୍ୟାରେ ଅବସ୍ଥାନ କରୁ ଛନ୍ତି. ଏଠାରେ ସେମାନଙ୍କର ପାଇଁ ଓଡିଶା ସରକାରଙ୍କ ଦ୍ଵାରା ସ୍କୁଲ, କଲେଜ, ଡାକ୍ତରଖାନା ଓ ଅନାନ୍ୟ ସମସ୍ତ ସୁବିଧା ସୁଯୋଗ ଯୋଗାଇ ଦିଆ ଯାଇଛି. ଦ୍ଵିଚକ୍ରଯାନ ପାଇଁ ଭଡ଼ା 5 ଟଙ୍କା ଲାଗିବ. ମୁଁ ବୁଲିବାକୁ ଗଲା ବେଳକୁ ଏଠାରେ ତିବତୀୟ ମାନଙ୍କ ର ଛୋଟ ଛୁଆ ପଢୁ ଥିଲେ. ସେମାନଙ୍କ ରହିବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ବହୁତ୍ ଗୁଡେ ପ୍ରକୋଷ୍ଠ ର ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ହୋଇଅଛି. ମୁଖ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିର ଟି ଦେଖିବାକୁ ବହୁତ୍ ସୁନ୍ଦର. କାନ୍ଥ ରେ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ଦେବାଦେବୀ ଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତିଛବି ଅଙ୍କା ଯାଇଛି. ମୁଖ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିର ଭିତରେ ଭଗବାନ ବୁଦ୍ଧ ଙ୍କ ଏକ ସୁଉଚ୍ଚ ପ୍ରତିମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଅଛି. ସମୁଦାୟ ଦେଖିବାକୁ ଗଲେ ଏକ ନୂତନ ଓ ଅନନ୍ୟ ଅନୁଭୂତି ହାସଲ କରିବେ ଓ ମନ କୁ ଶାନ୍ତି ମିଳିବ.

ଯାହା ଦେଖୁଛି ମୁଁ ଓଡିଶା ରେ ତ ବହୁତ୍ କିଛି ଅଛି. ହେଲେ ପ୍ରଚାର ଓ ପ୍ରସାର ଅଭାବରୁ ବହୁତ୍ ସ୍ଥାନ ଅବହେଳିତ ଅବସ୍ଥାରେ ରହିଛି.
