Mukkadal dam is built across the Vambaru River located in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is located near Thuvarankadu Village in Kanyakumari District.The district capital and nearby town Nagercoil is located 10 km (6.2 mi) from the dam. It was built in 1945 by Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, the King of Travancore. The dam is a natural earthen dam constructed using clay and granite stones. Natural place. There is a park located adjacent to the dam. The reservoir supplies water for the town of Nagercoil. The capacity of the reservoir was initially at 84mcft with Full Reservoir level of 60.98m. It was later increased to 105 mcft and 62.20m respectively in 1979.Despite this the water supply is deemed inadequate and new plans for obtaining additional water from Paraliar river is under works. Hidden treasure. Place was scenic and climate was awesome. Better time to go would be when it's cloudy. Awesome attraction in kanyakumari District. You can see the Breathtaking scenic view of western ghats and mountains. It have entrance ticket of 10Rs for adult. There are two parks, one is children park and other is science park. No parking is there we just need to park outside the gate. Worth a visit, give a try.It's open now, Good place to spend half day.. especially for children... There's a new built children park with scientific setup.. the bad thing is its not maintained properly...can be a good place if well maintained and advertised for people as many unaware about it.Good place to kill some time here, come here with your friends and family and spend some time and chill. I came here with my friends for photoshoot and you can do that too if you like. And there is a little park. If you have children they will enjoy there and some statues of dinosaur. For kids it's a good place so you can come and visit once.Beautiful view from top. Permission is denied somtimes.Also has a science park.Amazing place to be in a weekend. Really loved this place. There are some offroads for bikers also. So you can really enjoy it.Small dam, but nearby it is having a good park with so many scientific tools and amenities to play. The cons would be, it is difficult for the kids to play due to sun as there is no big trees for shade. Also nearby no shops, so better you buy and keep some drinks/juice while you enter...

It is a scenic place, favored as a picnic location among local residents. Read moreGood place. Pretty scenic. Doesn't cost much for entry. Dam is located in a valley of sorts. Wildlife is everywhere. We encountered a monitor lizard, also known colloquially as an udumbu. Take note this happened in a trail which is pretty far from the dam. So you don't have to worry about it. There's a park next to the dam. A scientific park. My only complaint is that the park seems kinda old and it is in need of some maintenance. The derelict nature of the park kinda adds to the whole aesthetic of the place.
