For 'Deer Safari' coming up in the reserve fisher forest area of Lion Safari in Etawah, different species of deer from Kanpur zoo would be transferred there. Sambhar, Chital and Black Bucks would be transferred to Deer Safari for which the preparations have already started at Kanpur zoo. Leopards would also be sent to the Safari for leopard Safari.
The transfer of the deer of three different species will reduce the animal strength at Kanpur zoo but zoo administration stated that these deer are in excess here and their transfer would not affect zoo.
The zoo vets have started the task of identifying the deer which have to be transferred. But before being sent to Safari, the blood test of all the identified deer would be done. This exercise will be undertaken to ensure that only healthy deer are sent to the Safari. The Kanpur zoo administration has been given 20 days time for completing the transfer of the animals. It is expected that by the end of June, these animals would be sent.
The zoo experts stated that while the transfer of the animals of the cat family is easier than the transfer of the deer due to their being fragile. Kanpur zoo director, Deepak Kumar confirmed the development and said that preparations are going on to send these deer to Safari where a dedicated Deer Safari is to come up. He also said that leopards would also be sent to Safari.
"We have been asked to complete the transfer of the deer as soon as possible. It is expected that within 20 days we will be able to send the deer to Safari. For this purpose, Sambhars, Chitals and Black Bucks are being identified. The identified would be segregated and put in the cage", said Kumar further while talking to TOI.
It is worth mentioning that for attracting tourists in near future when the lion safari will be thrown open, a separate Deer Safari is also proposed to come up. A leopard safari is also to come up in the same reserve fisher...
