Khoh River — Local services in Uttarakhand

Kho river (Kotdwar, Uttarakhand ): The elephant calf that was found estranged from the herd in the banks of Kho river and later taken back to the forest, has been abandoned again.

Though the 2 years old female calf kept crying a whole day, its mother did not return. Finally, the forest guards took it back to the forest station.

The elephant calf was found in the river bank. It easily got friendly with the locals and started playing with them. As its mother was seen nowhere near, the forest guards caught the calf and released near the herd inside the forest.

When the officers went to observe it , they found the little jumbo left alone at where they released it. Following this, the veterinary doctor examined the calf and fed it.

The forest guards took the elephant calf to the Lansdowne forest range by the evening. Though its health condition is satisfactory, the calf seems more exhausted than when it was found near the river bank.

I went there in November. My experience has been really good. We parked our car at siddhbali temple. The river is pretty close from there. You have to walk a little to go the river. The water is cold and pure. The water was so clear that we could see the rocks in the water bed. The shadow of the ripples was visible in the river bed. A must visit for all children and parents, or if you love water in general. You can always get your perfect instagram pic sitting on one of the rocks in the middle of the river. It's very beautiful to watch a river along the road side up to 20-25 kms from kotdwar via dugadda to next. Clean water, with rocks and special thing is, stop your vehicle or take it into the river by ramps made by locals.( But safety first ) 2 ramps just after dugadda will work for it.
