Kho river (Kotdwar, Uttarakhand ): The elephant calf that was found estranged from the herd in the banks of Kho river and later taken back to the forest, has been abandoned again.
Though the 2 years old female calf kept crying a whole day, its mother did not return. Finally, the forest guards took it back to the forest station.
The elephant calf was found in the river bank. It easily got friendly with the locals and started playing with them. As its mother was seen nowhere near, the forest guards caught the calf and released near the herd inside the forest.
When the officers went to observe it , they found the little jumbo left alone at where they released it. Following this, the veterinary doctor examined the calf and fed it.
The forest guards took the elephant calf to the Lansdowne forest range by the evening. Though its health condition is satisfactory, the calf seems more exhausted than when it was found near the river bank.
