It's going to be my narration of a two-year ordeal in this living commode. I did not do my research before joining and how I treasure not being admitted here at the ug level! I was mesmerised with its sprawling campus and wanted to study tourism administration but in 2016, bus services were not started so thankfully i got saved. At my masters level, I applied late for the same subject four years back. The marketing department which runs under 'admission dept' informed me that I had been 'selected' rather admitted. I joined classes. They went on and faculties were very receiving and my classmates cooperative but the system was flawed. For the absence of every class you get negative points in amizone (student registration portal). The travel & tourism department being a sister dprtmnt of hotel, we had uniforms which is good. Once it so happened that my black trousers were sent to laundry and I wore a black jeans to University for which I was told that it was not a proper dress code to which I agree. But I Could have been given a warning so that it would be my first and last time. I was disallowed from attending the first class which was still fine but on top of it, marked absent. You have to report within 48 hours once you receive the update of a misplaced attendance. You don't have a pujo Holiday on ponchomi. I was marked absent for a class (by mistake) though I attended all of them as my attendance percentage was below 60. I was afflicted with dengue and was advised bedrest due to low wbc count. So I missed almost two weeks of classes. After I rejoined, my parent brought all documents from the hospital and Submitted them so that I was not debarred from writing examination. Yes the minimum attendance percentage to be maintained is 75! There is no fine for paying a nominal amount in order to appear for the exams, like in other universities. I was not considered for medical reasons and had to pay extra for classes and fees. In spite of contacting my Mentor and teachers, it was in vain as they were helpless and Could not change the system. I felt suicidal as I felt guilty of wasting my parents' money, first as I was a self-sponsored student and secondly 10k was drained of my middle class parents' pockets for no reason. There was a girl in another school who was undergoing the third stage of chemotherapy due to which she Could not make it to her classes. On no grounds was she considered. In the same year, a student from another institute had broken her arm and Even she was not spared from debarment. During the covid pandemic, our classes were shifted online. If We were late to join the digital classroom by 1-2 minutes due to technical glitches and poor network connection we were not considered and marked absent. You are made to feel as if this is such a disciplined institution in the name of this 'harassment". And useless powerpoints and meaningless assignments are given which add no value to you knowledge but are simply allotted for marking. The library is indeed rich and the main attraction for me was sports- as it is an international University but no it lacks any avenue to channelise your energy. During the covid period we were charged for laboratories which we Could not access in spite of them playing an important role in our syllabus. I found all trash written about this lvng cmmd in quora after I had taken admission here. I passed out in 2021 but received my Security deposit after 2 years. It was double the amount of my debarment fine and it was pending. It was resolved after our convocation. Even teachers are not spared. They start classes at 9:10 am and have to stay back till 7 pm whether they have work pending or not. One left because of poor work culture and another stopped working full time. The canteen food is good but again pricey. Many more things to write but I hope that I Could make sense to newbies who are unintentionally planning to get their parents' income siphonned off by being admitted here. Take a gap year but don't get yourself imprisoned here. At least take care of your...

Dr John D Clemens, Executive Director, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) was the Chief Guest at the symposium. Leading National and International experts in this field such as Prof N K Ganguly, Prof of Eminence (Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences), New Delhi, Prof Yoshifumi Takeda, Emeritus Member, National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Japan, Dr Masanobu Nanno, Deputy Director, Yakult Central Institute, Tokyo, Japan, Prof G Balakrish Nair, Former Regional Advisor, World Health Organization, SEARO, Prof Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Kolkata, Prof Abhijit Chowdhury, Secretary, Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Liver and Digestive Sciences (IILDS), Kolkata, and Dr Shanta Dutta, Director, ICMR ā National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED), Kolkata were present at the symposium. Some of the recent findings suggest that what a woman eats during pregnancy can influence her microbiome and affect the babyās risk of allergies, asthma, obesity and metabolic diseases. Researchers think that giving the right probiotic during pregnancy could give a childās microbiome the best start in life.
According to Dr Masanobu Nanno, Deputy Director, Yakult Central Institute, Tokyo, Japan, āMicroorganisms exist in not only the environment but also all livings. Previously, microorganisms were thought to cause disease, but current understanding is that we and the microorganisms co-evolve and the commensal microorganisms are necessary for us to grow and develop normally. However, gut microbiota could be disturbed by various factors including diet, antibiotics-usage and ageing. Therefore, probiotics are safe and useful to maintain the health through recovering well-balanced gut microbiota.ā
Speaking on the benefits of probiotics, Prof Anura Kurpad Professor & Head, Division of Physiology & Nutrition, St Johnās Medical College, Bengaluru said, āTake care of your colon ā it needs good bacteria and those in turn need good substrates or prebiotics.ā
According to Prof Abhijit Chowdhury, Secretary, Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Liver and Digestive Sciences (IILDS), Kolkata, āFecal transplants, a procedure where the fecal matter is transferred from a donor to a patient to repopulate their colon has already begun to prove its utility in treating diseases including ulcerative colitis, Clostridium difficile infection and crohnās disease.ā
Dr Shanta Dutta, Director, ICMR ā National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) said, āIndia accounts for a fifth of the worldās births and quarter of the worldās child deaths. Diarrhoea is among one of the most important reasons for childhood mortality and studies suggest that certain probiotic bacteria could reduce the incidence and duration of diarrhoea.ā
Although the concept of probiotics is still nascent in India, the increasing scientific credibility and the emerging holistic concept of health that focuses on promoting good health rather than the manifestations of ill health will see the probiotic category advance as an important functional food for promoting and maintaining...

Amity is an anti religious university (not just atheist but actively anti tradition and anti religious) where hostel students are questioned why they are carrying agarbatti (incense sticks) to their room, they also have no facility for hostel students doing hindu fasting. Worst of all, they are ALLERGIC to holidays. Our country has so many holidays and puja and tradition but you would be lucky if Amity considered even ½ of festivals as holidays. Even the nearby Aliah university considers festivals and Durga puja as a festival! In Amity they don't! Being in Kolkata which is famous for Durga puja, you would be shocked to see Amity not even consider it as a holiday.
Another thing is: Your whole college life & by that extent, your academic career depends on ATTENDANCE. Which by the way, if the faculty doesn't feel like it they can just mark everyone absent (even though everyone did the class!!) When asked why they said it is revenge because 3 people in the last bench were scrolling on their phones. So because of 3 idiots the whole class of 60 students have to suffer? On top of that, God forbid your attendance is 74.9% because if it's not 75% percent then you are screwed. You will not get to give the exam or even if you do, you will not get good makes because it will be a B cap (so you wrote everything correctly? You will not get full marks because you have B cap)
Medical reasons? Accidents? Bone fracture? Family problems? Heart Attack? None of these are valid reasons for attendance. So you can be present every single day but are unwell for 3 weeks. You are screwed! Nobody can save you from being debarred.
Let's not talk about how anti-student some of the faculty & especially the hostel wardens are. They have a problem with everything, starting from judging hostel girls for their outfits to suspecting that hostel boys all want to un alive each other. They literally said that my plastic box is a weapon? They also said that by blinkit bag has a bomb. Seriously? Non only are they non trusting, they won't allow you to take food in your room if you are terribly sick and can't walk. The hostel wardens don't allow any fun or joy! God forbid you have any light or entertainment in your life, you must suffer because you paid the price for the hostel. Which by the way, charges you for 12 months but classes only happen for 9 or 10 months. Infact, they will kick you out the day exams are over even though technically you paid for the whole YEAR and not just the month. P.S: The hostel has central AC so you can't adjust the temperature. So either you must freeze in the cold or you must burn in the heat.
PS: If you are already here then it's too late...
