Arjuno-Welirang — Local services in East Java

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. The view is breathtaking and the trek was challenging and exhausting.

We started our hike through sumber brantas. You would need a health certificate from a government clinic to be able to climb, not sure if they scrutimize it though as we were not. This is transportation available from basecamp upto the base of the mountain which makes the climb easier, the view on the way is also amazing. From there on, its climb,climb,climb. There are three checkpoints until you reach the camp site. The trek from 2 up till 3 is the most difficult and the journey would take up about 5 hours from the base of the mountain. The view near the camp ground is amazing and definitely worth the tiring climb. From here you could climb 4 summits. Arjuno which is 5 to 6 hours one way, kembar 1 and weiliriang that takes about 4 in total back to camp and finally kembar 2. There is not a lot of wildlife that you will come across other than some birds and wild boars that would come to camp at night in search of food, there are also 2 panthers that you might come across accoding to the rangers at basecamp (our friends got a glimpse of one). There have been no attacks at all and is not something to worry about. Its recommended that a minumum of 3 people climb together unless you have a guide and a porter which can also be arranged at basecamp. Gunung Arjuno (terkadang dieja Gunung Arjuna) adalah sebuah gunung berapi kerucut (istirahat) di Jawa Timur, Indonesia dengan ketinggian 3.339 m dpl. Gunung Arjuno secara administratif terletak di perbatasan Kota Batu, Kabupaten Malang, dan Kabupaten Pasuruan dan berada di bawah pengelolaan Taman Hutan Raya Raden Soerjo. Gunung Arjuno merupakan gunung tertinggi ketiga di Jawa Timur setelah Gunung Semeru dan Gunung Raung, serta menjadi yang tertinggi keempat di Pulau Jawa. Biasanya gunung ini dicapai dari tiga titik pendakian yang cukup dikenal yaitu dari Lawang, Tretes dan Batu. Nama Arjuno berasal dari salah satu tokoh pewayangan Mahabharata, Arjuna.

Gunung Arjuno bersebelahan dengan Gunung Welirang, Gunung Kembar I, dan Gunung Kembar II. Puncak Gunung Arjuno terletak pada satu punggungan yang sama dengan puncak gunung Welirang, sehingga kompleks ini sering disebut juga dengan Arjuno-Welirang. Kompleks Arjuno-Welirang sendiri berada di dua gunung berapi yang lebih tua, Gunung Ringgit di timur dan Gunung Lincing di selatan. Area fumarol dengan cadangan belerang ditemukan di sejumlah lokasi pegunungan ini, seperti pada puncak Gunung Welirang, puncak Gunung Kembar II, dan pada sejumlah jalur pendakian.

Gunung Arjuno merupakan salah satu tujuan pendakian. Di samping tingginya yang telah mencapai lebih dari 3000 meter, di gunung ini terdapat beberapa objek wisata. Salah satunya adalah objek wisata air terjun Kakek Bodo yang juga merupakan salah satu jalur pendakian menuju puncak Gunung Arjuno. Meskipun selain objek wisata air terjun Kakek Bodo terdapat pula air terjun lain, tetapi para wisatawan jarang yang mendatangi air terjun lainnya, mungkin karena letak dan sarana wisatanya kurang mendukung. Di kawasan lerengnya juga terdapat mata air Sungai Brantas yang berasal dari simpanan air Gunung Arjuno. Mata air Sungai Brantas terletak di Desa Sumber Brantas, Bumiaji, Kota Batu yang merupakan sungai terpanjang kedua di Pulau Jawa setelah Sungai Bengawan Solo. Beberapa destinasi wisata yang terkenal hingga ke seluruh Indonesia maupun luar negeri juga terletak di lereng Gunung Arjuno, di antaranya adalah Tretes, Kota Wisata Batu, dan Taman Safari Indonesia 2.

Gunung Arjuno mempunyai kawasan hutan Dipterokarp Bukit, hutan Dipterokarp Atas, hutan Montane, dan Hutan Ericaceous atau hutan gunung.

Gunung Arjuno dapat didaki dan berbagai arah, arah Utara (Tretes) melalui Gunung Welirang, dan arah Timur (Lawang) dan dari arah Barat (Batu-Selecta), dan arah selatan (Karangploso), juga dari Sumberawan, Singosari. Desa Sumberawan adalah desa pusat kerajinan tangan di kecamatan Singosari, Kabupaten Malang dan merupakan desa terakhir untuk mempersiapkan diri sebelum memulai pendakian. I started hiking via batu, cangar, sumber brantas. the track is good enough for one who want to start hiking, from basecamp you should take ojek/truck for good price, eventho you can walk from basecampe if you want to, but i suggest take those ojek/truck, it will safe your energy for 5-6 hours hiking to get to post 3. You can camp on post 3. From post 3 you can go to welirang summit for 1 hour hiking, and you can go to arjuno summit for another 6 hours hiking.

Better bring a lot of water, because the water source is far from post 3 camp site, maybe 4.5-6litre/person. You should bring enough logistic because from post 3 to arjuno summit the track will consume a lot of energy due to vertical surface of the track. Eventho the view will payback for your energy.
