NEVER AGAIN !! We had booked a car with a driver to take us from Yogyakarta to Semarang. A journey of about 3.5 hours. It all started pleasantly. We also had a nice conversation with the driver. Near Ungaran (about half an hour before our final destination) the driver suddenly stopped and said he would be right back. He had double parked the car on a very busy road. We couldn't leave the car. Moreover, we did not want to leave our expensive luggage uncovered in the back of the car. After more than 40 minutes the driver came back. All this time we were waiting in the car. It turned out that he had stopped to pray. We respect everyone's beliefs, but just leaving us behind without any consultation and making us wait 40 minutes in a dangerous place in a sweltering hot car is absolutely not acceptable. When we confronted him about this he smiled and just said sorry. When we arrived in Semarang I sent a message to the organization. They responded almost immediately with the announcement that they were going to investigate it. More than two weeks have now passed and we have not heard anything. Not even after...
Read moreWe went with JB Tours and our driver was Udik.
Udik is a very nice and friendly guy, always willing to help. He never rushed us.
The tour starts with the sunrise point (you’ll have to wake up early!). If you’re lucky (and we were) you’ll see the sun coming from behind the Merapi Volcano. Very nice. The next stop is Borobodur temple. It’s impressive, a wonder.
You then head to the Merapi volcano, where you take a tour with a Jeep. Our driver there was Blondo, friendly and always laughing. We stopped in a couple of places, and we were supposed to go to the volcano base. But it was cloudy, and we saw nothing :( That’s nature!
We had lunch in a touristy restaurant and headed to Prambanan temple. Another speechless wonder.
One advice: on Mondays, both Borobodur and Prambanan are partially closed because of maintenance. In Borobodur you’d miss the stuppas and the statues, the most impressive parts. In Prambanan, you won’t be able to get in the temples. So, don’t go...
Read moreWe did the “Selogriyo Temple Tour & Java Rice Terrace Trek” with Jogja Borobudur Tour & Travel (booked via Getyourguide) and had a perfect day! We couldn't have imagined a better excursion with a better guide. Our guide Aulion entertained us well and shared a lot of knowledge. He speaks perfect English and we were able to ask him all our questions. The tour was informative, we walked through the middle of the rice field and we all laughed so much together. We had a ball! Aulion also told us a lot about Indonesian cuisine, bought and let us try cassava prepared in different ways and took us to his favorite restaurant at the end of the trip. We will remember this trip as a family for a long time to come. We can highly recommend a tour with Aulion to anyone. You can't get luckier with a guide in Yogyakarta. Many thanks to Aulion!
