Their main attraction, Pantai Pasir Perawan is nice - specially in the morning after the cleaning schedule. The local residents are friendly and chill. Prices are good.
The rest of the island tho, just trashy and messy. The bumpy road could be dangerous for cycling, and many kids riding ebike recklessly.
Pantai Rengge was originally nice but trashy. They asked for voluntary donation to enter but didn't care of taking care about the cleanliness.
I was there during a long weekend so it was on the extreme side of mass tourism without consideration for the environment. The use of single-use plastic food packaging and bottles are worrying.
The tourists - all locals, including all the campers, were smoking and littering at the beach and the boat. Government and residents could've set strict rules...

And then they collect money for the beach clean up at the Perawan beach entry, but only European looking tourists are being asked to pay it (5000 per person), which is a scam in my opinion, we just ignored them. At the Star Beach the entrance fee is 2500 per person but you can just walk through without paying.
Also, the island has very narrow streets and the locals ride those streets with their scooters and large motorcycles. This is annoying as hell as they honk you away and it shouldn't be allowed...
