Pramuka island — Local services in Jakarta

Disclaimer: even though I’m European, I have lived/worked for almost 3 years in Indonesia and been in various islands in Sumatra, Jawa, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua, so I have a pretty fair knowledge of the Indonesian reality. That said, I have to say I was pretty disappointed with this island, when comparing the reality with the comments here. The island is mainly for transit to other islands, as it has no beaches of its own. Prices are expensive for what they have to offer, both in accommodation and food (even when buying in the small warung2). There’s nothing to do in the island, except negotiate the price to charter a boat and go visit other spots in the archipelago (like Pulau Air or Pulau Semak Daun). The infrastructures on the island are pretty degraded and no maintenance is being made. The archipelago has some really nice spots to visit but sadly, Pulau Pramuka isn’t...

Pramuka island is one of island in kepulauan seribu. The local knew pramuka island as elang island ( 'elang' means eagle ). Pramuka island is the center of administration for kepulauan seribu goverment. So many goverment office here. One most popular place here is turtle conservation. And you even can trying to snorkeling around pramuka island. And some spot for diving. For beginer diver maybe pramuka island is quiet fine for diving. The magrove ecosytem is nice to. The goverment have more attention for magrove and for communities here. If you going there may you can see hydroponic vegetables everywhere and its easy to get seafood here and many shop provide many things. One of the main island in Seribu archipelago, there are a lot of public facilities such as ATM (DKI Bank & BNI), masjid (Masjid Jami Al-Makmuriah), food stalls, and so many home-stay available for visitors.

This island also become the starting point for anyone who planning to go to the smaller island e.g. Semak Daun island, Kotok island, Gusung Pandan island for a camping trip.

Even though there are so many travel provider that offering Pramuka island trip, you can arrange the trip on your own by coming to this island (from Kaliadem port) and asks locals about boat renting for island hopping and snorkling trip...
