Padar Island is one of the most famous and photographed destinations within Komodo National Park in Indonesia, renowned for its incredible panoramic views. Iconic Viewpoint and Beaches The Famous View: The main draw is the relatively short, but steep, hike to the island's summit. From the top, you get a breathtaking 360-degree vista of the rugged, savannah-covered island and its three crescent-shaped bays. Tri-Colored Beaches: What makes the view unique is that the three bays visible from the top each have a beach with a different colored sand: White Sand,Black Sand(volcanic in origin),Pink Sand (due to pulverized red coral mixing with the white sand, similar to the famous Pink Beach nearby)
Location and Access Location:Padar is the third-largest island in Komodo National Park, situated between Komodo Island and Rinca Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Access:The island is uninhabited and is visited primarily by boat tours. Starting Point:The gateway to the park, and Padar Island, is Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores. Travel Time: A boat trip from Labuan Bajo to Padar Island typically takes about 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the type of boat (speed boat is faster). Tour Options:Most visitors take a day trip or are on a multi-day liveaboard tour that includes Padar, Komodo, Rinca, and Manta Point.
Hiking and Activities The Hike:The trek to the viewpoint is generally considered moderately challenging due to the steep incline, but it's short, usually taking 30-45 minutes to reach the top. The trail now features a mix of wooden stairs, stone steps, and dirt path sections. Best Time to Hike: To avoid the intense heat, most tours aim for a sunrise or late afternoon/sunset hike for the best golden light for photography. Other Activities:Visitors can also swim, relax on the different colored beaches, or enjoy snorkeling/diving in the surrounding clear waters, which are known for rich marine life.
Important Note No Komodo Dragons:While the island is part of Komodo National Park, Padar Island is largely free of the famous Komodo dragons (though historically they were present). For dragon sightings, you will need to visit the neighboring Komodo Island or Rinca Island with a...
Read moreWe visit on feb 2020, sunny day, we started late, we depart at 9am, it was recommended to go before 6am, it was a package tour on a small phinisi boat, we planned to go to padar, rinca and kelor for snorkeling (unfortunately due to late departure, we were unable to go to kelor for snorkeling)
From labuan bajo to padar island it was about 3 hours on boat, we got a pretty nice deal, 24 people in a small phinisi boat (2 bed room with ac) full snack and meal and entrance ticket for about 950k idr per person. The boat was clean, toilet was ok (clean), the snack was free flow coffee, tea, mineral water (cooled), bread and jam, fried banana and cheese flat banana, instant noodle. The lunch was simple but tasty, we got fried prawn, tempeh nugget, chicken nugget, spicy tuna balado, chicken curry, and capcay.
Use lots of sunblock, bring umbrella, wear hat, and shade. It was VERY HOT and sunny, the island has only little tree, the only shade was the ranger camp near the pier.
Expect a little hiking, i only got to the 2nd level, the way to the top was still about 300 m hike. You will thread on a wooden and stone stairs.
The view was breathtaking... Definitely worth the energy you spent hiking.
After the hike you could rest in the ranger camp below and sipped some fresh young coconut, it will cost you about 30k idr, you can bargained a little with the seller. Tasted heavenly after hiking.
There's some deer drinking salt water in the beach when we visit, and the dont shy away from people, near the island we spot some small dolphin swimming around our boats.
Drink intermittently and plenty, heat and sunburn is...
Read morePadar Island is a small island located in the Komodo Islands of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is part of the Komodo National Park, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including the Komodo dragon. The island is known for its stunning scenery, including its iconic three-hilled landscape. I visited Padar Island last October 2022. The weather was perfect, with clear skies and warm temperatures. I hiked to the top of the hill, which offered stunning views of the island. From the top, I could see the three hills, the turquoise waters of the Flores Sea, and the surrounding islands. It was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. When sun about to set, I watched this mesmerizing moment from the top. It was another breath-taking sight. The sky was filled with vibrant colors, and the water reflected the sky like a mirror. There is so much to see and do on the island if you are looking for a beautiful and unique travel destination, I highly recommend visiting Padar Island. Here are some tips for visitors: • Wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking involved. • Bring a bottle of water, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat, as the sun can be very strong. • Bring a camera, as you will want to capture all of the amazing scenery. • Enjoy your time on this...
