Disappointing. Neglected and overgrown.

I decided to go and see Mahawu Crater. Nice drive up hill to entrance. Car park for cars and bikes. 5k for person, 10k for car. Steps upto top of crater takes 5-10 minutes depending on fitness level. I took 7 with a couple of breather stops. The handrail to the top is missing in places, and rusted out in other places.

The paved path goes all the way around the crater. I started my walk on the right hand path. Path is greasy and slippery in a lot of places. It goes up and down around the crater. There's a few places where you can see the crater and take photos. As craters go, it's ordinary. But if you haven't seen one then you may like.

Also you can see a town and lake on the other side of path. The path is mostly covered with at least 2 metre high vegetation. I had my hands up around my face diverting the foliage. Half way around , when you come to an old concrete structure, the bush gets more intrusive. Just push on, stick to the path. It took me 25 mins walk around the crater path, with stops for photos. I wouldn't divert from the path for a closer look as it looks risky, and it's a good drop down.

The crater itself is inactive, they say. There was a mild smell of sulphur when I initially got to the top of the steps. Nothing toxic.

Overall it was a good 40-45 minute workout from bottom to top and back again.

When I went it was overcast, not hot. But you definitely warm up when your on the path.

Take water with you. Stick to the path. It's a reasonable workout.

Area needs some work. Couple of guys with weed eaters could probably clear the path in a day. The handrail needs a...

Although it is different from the white crater area of Ciwidey Bandung - its culinary route and tourism, the Mahawu Mountain crater is also the right tourist spot for tourists who like to see the beauty of nature, but do not want to climb too far. Only need to climb for ten minutes on a cemented and good staircase, to get to the mountain crater.

Located not far from the Tomohon flower area, the Mahawu Mountain crater is the right choice if we are satisfied to take a walk in the flower garden and want to see the depth of the exotic crater. Concrete trails, cemented and trapped steps, make it easy for tourists to travel up. The scenery in the form of the crater of Mount Lokon, Mount Manado Tua, Bunaken Island, the city of Tomohon and Manado can be seen if tourists go around the path on...

It's a bit difficult to find the gathering point. If u go one ur own makes sure u ask locals very often Which way to take coz the street signs are wrong. The site was beautiful, lake is dry though. You can walk around the volcano and get some very good photos. Between the 2nd and 3rd stop you can even find a tiny hidden path to go down the volcano. Doesn't look safe though so don't try. Was very good hiking, a bit exhausting. Make sure you take enough water. Entrance fee was...
