Murvagh is a clean, sandy beach, about four and a half kilometres long, on the west coast of County Donegal. The beach, which has been awarded Blue Flag status, is backed by sand dunes, which are designated as a Special Area of Conservation and then by Murvagh Forest. Murvagh Beach is located on the south west coast of County Donegal. It’s a 15-minute drive from Ballyshannon and Donegal Town and a 20-minute drive from Bundoran. There’s only one road up to Murvagh Beach and – thankfully! – there’s a big old car park right at the end (here on Google Maps). A sandy path on the western side of the car park will then take you straight to the beach.

Big beach tucked away. Great for dog walking

Amazing beach. Blue Flag and lovely stretch of about 2km for walking, playing, running and whatever you want. There are two entry points, one as you approach the coast straight at cul de sac and then another about a one kilometre if you turn right and head to the main car park via narrow road between the dunes. Please be responsible and take trash while you leave. Respect nature and people around you - some of the visitors treat it like a one stop shop for noise and litter, the leave - don’t be one of these guys. Also clean after the dogs, there’s nothing worse than come to the beach just to step on some poop and get your nerves pop.

Been walking through Murvagh woods now for 21 years it is a sun dappled glittering space. I heard on the grapevine that moves are potentially afoot to scourge this little bit of wonder and contemplation. Outrageous if true. The woods are bursting with life, a chaotic jumble of fauna and flora, and don't need man's interference. For God's sake leave Murvagh woods alone. John Muir said" if people in general could be got into woods, even for once, to hear the trees speak for themselves, all difficulties in the way of forest preservation would vanish " Walk the woods, listen to it talk, the aroma speaks, the creaking branches, the rustle of the mutivarious leaf cover, and the little animals going about their business. Leave Pan alone to play his pipes whispering wonder to...
