One of my favourite courses. On a nice day itâs breathtakingly beautiful. Donât be fooled by the gentle first the front 9 is tough and long in places. The second tee shot must be one of the most spectacular in Ireland with the beach to the left you hit toward the distant hills and over the inlet. If youâre brave youâll have a flat lie with more water to carry, bottle it and youâre laying up. The front 9 mainly follows the beach out with a couple of brutal par 4s nestled between the dunes. There are some pretty non linksy holes on the back 9 and turf is softer than many links courses. Portasalon is a unique blend of brutality and fun with an aura all of its own.    Read moreI "discovered" Portsalon about 30 years ago. It is an enjoyable links experience with stunning beach vistas. The Pro Shop and restaurant are friendly and accommodating. To fully experience Portsalon, I suggest bringing a bathing suit, change in the modest locker room , walk down the parking lot to the tunnel under the 18th fairway , run across the beach, full speed into the bay and you will "enjoy" an eye opening experience.
